All of my journey's are pretty much on hold right now. I'm trying to put my wife through grad school. :doh:
 
I have a lockrite in the rear of my FJ62. You barely notice it unless you really gas it in a sharp corner from a stop. You will notice more driveline slop though even if you hammer it in straight line... just a bit of rear torque steer.

Makes a HUGE difference offroad though. :)

I'd love ARB's front and back but that is a big$$$$ proposition. A $160 used Lockrite is a nice stop-gap.

My truck only sees occassional, weekend paved-road duty though. If it turns out to be a real bear in winter, I can swap my stock spider gears back in "easily" enough.

Okey-Dokey ...

As I understand it the Aussie is a ratcheting locker which is *rotation/torque* dependent on the driveshaft to engage.

1.) When you are going *uphill* the diff is under torque from the driveshaft so the Aussie locks.

2.) When you are *downhill* the diff is under torque from the driveshaft so the Aussie locks.

In *transition* between 1 & 2 there will be *no* torque on the diff and the Aussie will unlock.

While coasting downhill (clutch in, or in neutral) there will be no torque on the diff and the Aussie will unlock.

Aussie tech support finally reached me by phone. Long phone tag. I'm hard to get ahold of too. I sometimes have that anarchistic mentality of I'll turn my phone on when I want you to get ahold of me, but not before, especailly prevalent on weekends and when I'm sleeping.

The instruction manual is very long and verbose IMNSHO. The critical piece of information I was finally able to smoke out is:

The space between the left cam gear and the right cam gear should be 140 - 160 thousands of an inch.

150 being the best target.

140 is absolutely the tighest and 165 ( 5 past recommended ) being acceptable but the loose sloppy setting.

I've ordered up a new shim set and will tackle the rear diff on Friday morning.

I'm going back in to re-shim my diff !!!

P.S. This info was not in the instruction manual.
 
A little off topic. For a Cruiser that is not going to be used as a rock crawler, but instead an expedition type rig. Would rear lockers be sufficient?
