I'm in the same boat and trying not to have to buy used hubs for a hundred bux or new ones for 200 bux. All I need are the basic rebuild parts like detent springs, ball and larger internal spring. Even the stealer doesn't carry them. They wanna sell you hubs for 325 bux......

I don't think i have any detent ball and springs left. I have a large coil spring if you need that. You can pull the detent ball and spring off any ifs rig or sammi, etc.

IIRC, if your gonna use mini or 4 runner parts then you can use years 79 -85. I do not believe IFS parts are interchangeable..

everything but the ring that slides on the birf/ or ifs stub is interchangeable

yup i know that much but are all the solid axle hubs swapable?

For the most part yes. There is some non usa stuff that is different. Ie coarse spline solid axles and aisin hubs.

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica]here's part of an article from off road dot com about these hubs:

Offroad.com said:
AISIN hubs generally come on imported trucks, and their owners are accustomed to paying inflated prices for replacement parts. But there is some good news - used AISIN hubs are easily and inexpensively rebuildable to like-new condition. And many of the parts are interchangeable between hubs from differing vehicles. For example, you can use a junkyard hub from a Toyota for parts to repair a Suzuki
I obtained four different flavors of AISIN hubs for this article. Clockwise from top-left in the picture are hubs from an IFS Toyota 4Runner, a solid axle Toyota pickup, a 1993 Isuzu Amigo, and one from a Suzuki Samurai, Of these four, the Isuzu was the odd duck - the hub body was much smaller overall (with a different bolt pattern) than the others, it doesn't use cone washers for mounting, and the dial is built in such a way to reduce the extent of the travel of the clutch. The factors combine to make this hub a very compact unit. Still, the clutch, pawl, springs, and other parts are compatible with the other hubs.
The Suzuki and 30-spline Toyota hubs are virtually identical except for the inner hub. The grips on the dial of the 30-spline Toyota hub stick out slightly beyond the cap, where on the others, it is flush. Functionally, the dials are interchangeable between the Suzuki and 26- and 30-spline Toyota hubs. The 26-spline (IFS) Toyota hub has a deeper backspacing between the mounting flange and the inner hub than the other hubs, in order to clear the spindle nuts. Because of this, the Suzuki or 30-spline Toyota hub body will not fit on an IFS toyota wheel hub, but the reverse should work; i.e. a 26-spline Toyota hub body should be usable on a Suzuki or 30-spline Toyota hub.

thanks gladly, that helps quite a bit

Why would someone swap a 74 ****py drum brake axle for an overseas ****py drum brake axle??? :D

(stranger things have happened lol)

If properly maintained the drums and shoes will have better stoping than rotors and calipers. The problem with the drums is when they get wet . I know that from my German 79 40. It had HD 4 way drums and it stoped better than with 4 toy calipers.

About lockouts:
All the toyota truck are 30 splined till 88 for sure , because I have used lockouts from 84 on an 88 truck and maybe till 89 or 90 . I know they changed to 26 splined in the late 80s or early 90s.
The difference is they are shorter so if you put the LC lockout on a mini truck axles you might not be able to reinstall the snap ring. I still have the front German drum axles and I can try them on an 84 truck axles or I can try the truck lockouts on the LC axles , if you like.
So if you are looking to buy used, take an outer axle shaft with you and try them on just to be sure.

Toyota truck?

07/85 was the last of the SOLID AXLE mini trucks in the USA...after that, they were IFS, 26 spline units....

Land Cruiser lockouts are the same, 1979 and on 40 series, and the 60/62 series, all 30 spline....
