I just tried to engage the 4 wheel drive on my recently acquired '88 model 62. When I tried to lock out the front wheels only 1 would lock. The other would move approximately 1/3 of the way. The PO had the front wheels repacked last June. Any help would be appreciated.

1) Check to see if the hub whose handle won't turn all the way actually IS engaged...jack up front of vehicle, rotate wheel in question; if front propeller shaft rotates, hub may be stuck in LOCK(even if handle is set to free).
2) Try to extract a redo on the hub repack job 'cause they didn't put it back together correctly. It's probably just that one side that needs to be put back together again.

More likely than not, they were overgreased..

Piece of cake to pull the hubs apart and see what is wrong.

Probably it's that the Freewheel Hub was not assembled correctly. Pretty easy to take apart and reassemble.

aonther vote to this idea ... but IMOP ( personal experience and mechanical skills ) is not easy pullaut the hub, and disarm it. I try to do that .. and never can put it fine again ..

Hubs

Thanks guys. Just pulled the hub that wasn't working and found that whoever packed it for the PO put it back together wrong. I appreciate the replies.
