1990 Prado has two tanks for washer fluid. One on the right side for window washer and one on the left (near the battery) for headlight washer fluid, ( So saith the pictures on the lids).

The window washer tank. pump etc works fine. The headlight washer tank holds fluid if the vehicle sits and waits, for days.

If driven, the tank empties. I noticed this when driving in the rain, but it does not rain all that much here. I usually don't fill the tank because it disappears and I don't see any benefit of it

I checked to see if it washes the lights when the window washer is on, but apparently not.

I don't know where the switch is or how this thing turns on.

Anyone have knowledge of this system? You can even tell me its a dumb question:doh:

TIA

Hey Tia,

the light washers only engage when you pull back twice on the washer lever.... so just pull back 2 times and it should spray the light. hope that helps

I have tried the "pull back twice" method but have yet to see any evidence of cleaning fluid on the headlights. Is there a pump that can go bad? The reservoir is always full ( does not leak )

if its a square light prado, only works with the headlights on, also the switch is by the fog lights, press it to wash.

My fog lights no longer utilize the original switch so where exactly is the headlight washer switch? .....1978HJ45

is the 90 Prado different from the 91? on my 91 lj78 the switch by the fog light is only for the rear wiper / washer... the headlight washer is basically the windsheild wiper lever and pull back twice (like what Cruiser70 said headlights have to be on) totally forgot about that.

I always wondered how to get them to work......
Never mind. Took out the bottle years ago and fitted remote oil filter....
Not sure where I put the tank.

I found them pretty useless unless you are spraying down fresh dirt on the lights or something.. they never got ride of the bugs or mud that accumulated, just made it wet mud and bug mush which then had more stuff stick on...

However driving in slushy snow they were good cause I had winter washer fluid in and it just got rid of all the snow accumulation on the head lights.

Mine definately don't work ( 1990 LJ78 ) even with the lights on and pulling the selector twice. I will have to do it the old fashion way
( Windex and elbow grease ).:) ............1978HJ45

haha well even after spraying I still have to use windex and elbow grease, so I guess I should just jump straight to the windex and elbow grease.

Thanks all!

I will try those suggestions to see what works.
If it does not......
well I've been getting along without it for a few years now.
