Update:
Went for a longer drive.
450 to 550 on the highway seems stable over longer time periods.
Slowly crept up to 600 heading up Cunninghams Gap. Seemed pretty stable there, but the Engine coolant temp jumped up to 3/4 so i threw on the heater and dropped back to 2nd which drops the temps somewhat.
AT lockup issue was a missing spacer on the brake pedal switch
