Hello Guys,
Speakers in my truck were original and trash. The foam surround was all gone. i decided to give the 4 speakers and the woofer a rebuild of sorts.
I ordered new foam surrounds and glued them to the cone after due cleaning.
I got the products shipped from Electronic parts for consumer electronic equipment
located in BC.
the sound is obvously better. an it only cost close to $30 + shipping for the whole lot.
It is really easy.
There are lots of youtube videos available.
Some pics, Enjoy.

What is the best route to the driver side speaker? If I follow a visual bolts and screws trail it looks like a good portion of the dash may need to come apart?!

Yeah, you have to remove the gauge cluster. It's not that bad. The hardest part for me was reaching around behind it to disconnect the tach. Consider upgrading the dashboard lighting while you have it out.

Oy! I was afraid you’d say that. SO.... how long did it take? Do I need to block out an entire day (or two since I’m new to Prado tinkering)? Also... what did you replace them with? I ordered some 3.5” Kenwoods that turned out to be too small. In what way did you upgrade lights?! TIA!!

It doesn't take long. The bulbs change out pretty quickly. You're going to need a combination of T5 and T10 bulbs in order to get everything. They usually come in packages of 10, and that should cover it all with a few bulbs left over for spares. At most, it will add about an hour to the job of changing out the speakers.

I suggest hooking up the connectors in the back of the gauge cluster and testing everything before buttoning it up. Chances are, you'll miss a couple and that's the best way to find them. Good luck!

It's been a hot minute since I bugged you about speakers....I still haven't had luck finding replacements, so I am considering a rebuild like you did. The link to resources you provided in your post no longer works though. Can you send me info for speaker and bulb resources...with specific info on what to order? I would super appreciate it! I am about to pull the windshield, so I figure that may be a good time to disassemble the dash and do the other work...TIA!

I went with these speakers.

Infinity REF-4022cfx 105W 4" Reference Series Coaxial Car Speakers

Any 4" speaker will work. IIRC, the factory speakers use a bracket that you'll have to modify to work with the new speakers, but it's not difficult.

As for the light bulbs, get a 10-pack each of T10 and T5 bulbs in whatever color suits your fancy. They're cheap and you'll have a few left over as spares. You'll be amazed at the difference new lighting makes.

Cheers and good luck.

Another option to consider is to just skip the dash-mounted speakers and contact @c2dfj45 and see if he still has some of those lovely door-mounted speaker pods. You'll get much better sound out of some 6.5" speakers mounted in the door.
