Today my wife picked up our daughter at school. Went back to the Prado to find no power - battery dead and unresponsive. Some 10 minutes later I tried it, and bob's-your-uncle, it started and has had no trouble all day. The battery posts are clean and connected to the cables.

It is wet - melting snow. Did that cause a short somewhere? Are there other, darker nefarious forces at work here? Anyone else experience this? A big hmmmmmm over here. Should I be worrying?

Peace - Peter

Were you at all able to see if the instrument guages came on when you turned the ignition? If no the I can`t really even begin to try to help. I would say you have electric gremlims somewhere. I have no clue from that point on.

If you did have instrument reaction to the ignition then I would say selonoid (sp?) contacts or soon to go bad brushes in the starter.

Most the time selonoid contacts are a simple cleaning fix. Brushes are also a pretty easy fix with a starter rebuild and that shouldn`t rob your bank either.

Check the simple stupid first.

I bet someone will chime in with a better response to your question most skosh.

It could be something as simple as the igniton switch. I agree with Pactoy, watch your gauges as you start and keep an eye out for any other electrical weirdness.
If it does it again I would put a test lamp or multimeter across the batteries and ascertain if there is power there or not;)

Contacts in the starter? This is a common issue on many toyotas. My camry did this for a while and on humid days it was more common.
