My 1991 LJ-78 with 2L-TE motor often shows low oil pressure. I have read in various forums that it isn't unusual for these to show low even if the pressure is fine and they suggest replacing the sender. I ordered a replacement from Australia that appeared to be the correct one but does not work. The retailer said it isn't the one I need and they don't seem to have the right one.

I cannot find a sender unit that specifies my engine. The original has the ground tab on the top, as well as the button connector. Does anyone know, first of all, if there is a parts outlet (anywhere!) that might carry this? Next, is there a work-around for this? Can I buy one that doesn't have the ground tab and ground the cable to the block another way?

Thanks, Brian

Oil pressure at idle will appear low. Engines can run with just a few pounds at idle. If you are showing pressure at idle, it is most likely fine.
If you are using the stock gauge, you have to have the matching sending unit. Ohm range is different across senders.
I don't have the part number off had as I pulled mine since the gauge was fried anyway and am using an after market gauge and sender.

Mine reads low too. The sender's wear out and apparently this is not uncommon. Some people have opened them up and re-calibrated them with some success.

I think the real trick is looking for any change from what is the normal for your engine. If it's getting lower quickly then you have something to be worried about.

It's the same sender that all the 12V cruisers use I think. Should not be that hard to find. Toyota part number is: 83520-60010
