So I was discussing with a buddy the dilemma of my unlocked 80 series. (lunchbox vs. factory vs. Air) He has a muscle car background and a decent understanding of what I am looking to accomplish. He suggested that four individual line locks could work and might not be that expensive.

The theory being if DS front is off the ground or has no traction you could lock (partially or completely) that tire and in theory would be able to divert power to the PS front tire.

I have pretty much settled on ARB Air lockers but thought this was an interesting theory and I wanted to throw it out the experts. I searched the general forum for any discussion along these lines and didn't find anything which leads me to believe it is either genius or so dumb that nobody with half a brain would even suggest such a thing. (I think I know which side this falls on but, still curious)

Again, four separate line locks with switches in the cab to lock tires independently.

you would have to get pretty good with the switches, dont want that locked wheel touching during a climb
ypu could get a job as grocery checker for practice;look at those fingers go
may as well go full hydraulic suspension
:hillbilly: lorider with Atrac:hhmm:

So what if the tire is on ice or in mud? Or you are trying to climb a 5 ft ledge? Or running the devils bunghole? Don't see how line locks would help over a locker in those situations.

I don't think in any scenario they would be better than lockers. Really just wondering if you could lock or partially lock the wheel that is slipping is it possible to transfer any of that power to the other side.

Isn't this what atrac is?

that is how A-trac works. But to be at all effective it needs to adapt to slight changes in traction as the vehicle progresses, otherwise the wheel with the brakes applied will become a hindrance instead of a helper. That is the reason for speed sensors and a computer. I doubt that you could manually control the line locks to get any thing substantial to work.

That's the answer I was looking for here. No question Lockers are better, and that in theory this could work but without speed sensors and a computer it is very unlikely to be effective and certainly not in a situation where you need consistent pull.
thanks

If you looking for cheap. Just weld the diffs. Done.

Electric line locks arent the way to go if you want to lock up your brakes temporarily.

In order to do front dig and rear digs or lock an individual tire up, rock crawling comp guys use cutting brakes which is a supplimental master cylinder piped in line with that brake or axle and is operated by a long hand lever in the cab. You could do one axle or one wheel depending on how it is installed.

but lockers are the best way to go.

I wheeled with a guy who had these, he spun around corners that a Suzuki samurai would have trouble with, pretty cool
