I know all parking structures are different, but how are you guys faring with trying to fit in one? I'm envisioning an 80 w/ a 2.5-3" lift on 33's and no racks. Do you think parking garages are out if the question with a setup like that?

Depends. My high rise garage has 8 foot ceilings, which are fine for most moderate lifted vehicles w/o racks.

A lot of garages downtown are 6'6 - you wouldn't fit.

I was fine in most garages with a 2.5" lift and 315s. I think 7' clearance was the minimum and it still made me duck my head! Aftermarket roof racks will have a big affect too.

x2 on downtown many, many places. That's one reason why our truck is set-up like it is, sans roof rack, as as seen in my sig line. Main reason is our home garage is just a inch or two higher than that, although I could get ambitious and mod to fit it in with a rack.

With the typical 2.5" lift and 33" tires, you're right at the point where a bounce at the wrong spot could give your roof some roof rash going through if the top is slick. If you have a rack, fegeddaboutit, almost crunch time at a 6'6" opening.

Some folks run 35s on a stock suspension and claim limited rubbing. YMMV on that but with the Stock height OME combination and 35s it MIGHT slip in through a 6'6" opening if you're slick on top. My truck has clearance, so I'd almost bet that would clear. Anyone have things set-up like that and can give a overall height of truck?

Sitting still, I'm 6'6" due to the suspension travel, I'm pretty leary of garages below 7'. I've kissed the spoiler in 6'10" garages.

315s. OME 850-860. Minimal weight. Roof rack. 6'8.5"

I sneak into 6'6" parkades all the time. As long as the height bar is hanging on chains I'm okay with pushing it with the roof rack. Keep the moonroof closed and go slow. Just watch for low hanging stuff. I've been inside a 6'5" parkade before as well. Just avoid the sprinkler pipes.

The garage door for my house is 6'10" so I still fit fine.

As for sneaking into parkades, I have OBA and have not had to air down the tires for that yet. Just your daily mall crawling session. It just makes my wife shake her head. Feels good having the biggest truck in the parkade sometimes haha.

For years I drove around with 315s and stock springs, 1" spacer up front (winch) and was right at 6'6" at the high point. No issues with any parkades. Just slow down when there is a bump or crest inside and a beam overhead.

Ymmv.

I live in L.A. and the only available parking is often structure parking. Oh well, all the more reason to have someone else drive!

I haven't found a parking garage that I can't fit in yet and I have a rack. I do know I won't fit in drive-through car washes that limit you to 7'. I tried once and according to the 7' limit bar at the entrance of the car wash, I'm about 7' 1/2"......doh!

I've noticed that many of the clearance signs in parking structures are wrong. Especially when you come up against a ramp. As the ramp goes up, one could actually get close to a ceiling beam.

I have my radio antennas on my ARB bumper. Coincidentally they're about 1/2" taller than my roofline. So I use my antennas as height clearance feelers.

minor lift, 33s, but when I have the big rack on, I'm within 1" of my 7' high garage door. Can live (and leave) with that, but my main work pkg structure is also labeled as 7' and that's a bit unnerving. You'd hope they advertise the height conservatively but who knows...

I've had a 2.5" lift and a smooth roof for a while now and had to enter my own garage really slowly otherwise when the rear wheels went up onto the slab my roof would rub the bottom of the garage door. And this was after I shortened the door lift bracket to pull the door up equal with the upper door frame.

I'm glad that I saw this thread because it reminded me that I just got 33" tires yesterday (up from 30") so the 80's garage days are probably over. Hopefully I won't forget and go driving in anymore. But only until my rack arrives from DiamondRax in the next couple days. Then I REALLY hope I don't forget! LOL

I'll look at the bright side. The good thing is, I ended up learning about free street parking in many areas I frequent instead of having to pay for parking in a structure. Or I just take my car or bicycle instead.

I installed 2.5" OME heavy coils and that raised my truck 4+ inches. My 33" tires combined with that lift and my Yakima rack would not fit in short term parking garage at the airport. Fortunately I realized it before I rammed into the concrete overhang. I had to get out and remove my roof rack and throw it in back while blocking the entrance to the parking garage with a bunch of people honking and swearing at me for being an idiot:doh:
If you are measuring for height fitment, remember that most lifts are referring to lift over new stock height with a stated load, not above current height of worn out springs.

J springs front and rear with 315's and a factory roof rack fit fine at the GROVE parking structure!

FWIW I run my setup in my sig and fit my garage at 6'4" with no rack.

Step 1, 4 inch lift on 33's

Step 2, roof rack with top mounted skidplates

air down, enter parking structure, find parking place

air up, skid plates touch roof, no need for alarm, kind of like a steering wheel lock for the whole truck
