I'm not familiar with the 80's. Bad head gaskets and/or heads right on the 3fe motor?

No, the head gasket problem is more common with the 1fz in the 93-97 80s. Most folks looking for 80's believe that the 1fz is more desirable because of its superior horsepower and torque.
The truck may be beat up and/or have a rough interior The excitement and novelty of "cruising around" in a huge, noisy, gas guzzling beast may wear off quickly, and the market for dedicated heavy duty wheeling trucks isn't a large one. It does sound like a good deal though.

No the fj80 is the 80 series that will give you the least amount of problems. The only common problem that may pop up is the EFI relay sometimes will go out. A $30 10 second fix.

That is a great price for that rig. With a rebuilt trans and engine it will last for a very long time. 4.88 gears, lockers, ARB bumpers, roofrack, 12k winch...... great truck.
