Lift kits for the 80

Once all the PM stuff is taken care of, the only thing I really need to buy is a lift (I have my old winch, and will be building the rest.) What are you guys running, and how much does a good suspension lift cost? I've seen the different setups on Slee, but curious as to what you guys recommended.

I have a set of 285/75/16 BFG AT's that have only 5K on them, but I'm not to sure if I should put them on at stock height? I'd like to throw them on since the stock tires are pretty low on tread in the rear.

I am running OME Heavy front/rear. Has the OME shocks & steering stabilizer. Haven't had any issues and was much nicer than the stock stuff. It has been enough for now, but I do want to go bigger, either 4 or 6 from Slee. I ran my old Revo's on the stock suspension, fills out the wheelwells nicely. You don't need a lift for them. I had the 285s on the OME lift as well, but then they seemed small. So, I got some 315 Toyos. I regeared after a few months after that due to 'lack of performance' issues. Went to 5.29s and you pretty much know the rest. Truck ran fine with 285 and stock gears though, it was only after the 315s that it took a hit. Well, that and the 4x4 Labs rear bumper, the ARB front bumper with a M12000 winch lol. If I can manage to save up some money after all the motor work, I will probably get my lift later this year hopefully.

Well, here is my 2 cents...

For a lift on the cheap, order the 1" poly spacers from Man-a-Fre, (unless you can score a set of used OME's, from someone who is going higher, hint, hint), put your 285's on as soon as you want to, they will fit with the stock height no problem. Like Jon said, they actually fill out the fenderwells much better. Order the speedo correction gear from Slee and enjoy it until you are ready to spend the big money.

When you are ready, Slee 4", 4.88's, ARB's, 315's. My point being don't spend a lot of money on the 2.5"/285 stuff, you will go bigger. Not to toot my own horn because I am certainly not the first, but the above listed combo, which is what I have and so do a bunch of others, is about the perfect lift/tire/wheeling/driveability combo for an 80.

Sounds just like the options you have with the Rover stuff.

The rear suspension looks like something you could fab up with some DOM & jonny joints. Didn't you do something similiar, jack? The front radius arms would be a different story.... What about front end geometry with the OME lifts? Castor affected much? DS vibrations?

i'll have the tires mounted tuesday afternoon then. Can't wait to see this thing with some decent tires on it!

Although not as cool looking, there is ample room behind the stock bumper for a winch between the frame rails. It's a nice, stealthy and a very practical way to carry a winch.
