I had the front drive shaft out of my 80 for a few tanks, and I figured it worked to about 2mpg as well. I was getting a Taco rear double carden shaft re-tubed to look after vibes on the front.

Older u-joints sometimes do not appreciate increased range of motion even if your angles are correct. Have you used a protractor/angle finder to ensure the pinion faces are on the same angle?

did the kit come with adjustable upper rear links? 80s seem to be finicky on what it likes. some need more correction than others :meh: id like to have adj panhards..as it looks kinda wonky with offset axles. she still tracks pretty straight though, and vibe free on 315's with spacers. did you contact maf on how to center axles? i recall reading a thread in the 80s forum not too long ago on how to...

Maybe I used the wrong term, but the upper rear links (panhards?) are udjustable and I've tried a couple of positions. I think it is a u-joint as I can feel a little play when I accelerate or decelerate. Just a slight clunk feel. The track bars adjust the axels side to side nicely for the eyeball.

I haven't tried a protractor yet. I also have a pitch finder for work that I could try if I knew what the measurements were supposed to be. I may just have to make a call to MAF to get the info.

Worn panhard bushings will also give you that clunk. It can be hard to see on a rubber bushing unless they are really worn. Best to get underneath and check the u-joint by hand for play first. I had a clunk twice in the front when coming to a stop soon after I bought my vehicle. Guys I talked to thought it was the panhard bushes. I checked them but they did not look worn or cracked. The clunk went away. I just assumed it was bushing related because the vehicle was parked for a long time.

Vanny,
Nice ride!
What's the size of the tires in the pic?

Was there any trouble when you went back through the boarder from Point Roberts?

Thanks,
James

I got it. They're 285's.

No trouble at the border. Just told them it was a lift for my truck. They look at the receipt and charge the required GST and PST.

Thanks. Is that 12% on top of everything?

Yes. If they see parts were made outside of North America they will charge you another 6% I think. Maybe ask them to send the items in different boxes :).

Thanks.

NICE LIFT , That should flex nicely
