Lift Gate Rust (what can be done?)

I bought a used one, from a wreck, a few years ago. It was my color, perfect match. Completely rust free from a western truck. Included all of the hardware {including the wiper assembly}, and the interior panels. Simple bolt on. I paid $750, and picked it up in New Hampshire. I had worked on my rusty hatch twice before this, and as we all know it's a losing battle. When I sold the truck, it was a mechanically near perfect rust bucket, 242K miles in New England, with a perfect hatch! Bought it at Cruiserparts.net
