hey, im brand new here, just bought a 1988 fj62, and im looking to lift it. My only problem is that all the lifts i found were like $1400 :bang:, so whats the best lift out there for the cheapest price, thanks

If you want a cheap lift use add-a-leafs but keep in mind you get what you pay for. They're a good solution while you save for a good lift like OME which you've seen plenty of mention about.

Best and cheapest are often hard to make jive. What's your intended use for the truck? Do you want a lift for the sake of a lift, or are you planning on wheeling moderate trails and need the lift? If not $1,400, then what's your budget like, then?

Sorry but anything cheap is not worth while for a cruiser. Unless you find a lift on the mud classifieds or something you will find nothing. cruiseroutfitters is the best. Install once pay once.;)

Man-a-fre still has parabolics for $90 per spring.
HST Parabolic Leaf Springs

Hell creek might be worth a look

eBay Motors: FJ60/62 LandCruiser 2-1/2 inch Lift Kit !!! SALE !!!! (item 260283575623 end time Sep-09-08 14:32:23 PDT)

Be careful, the little bits and pieces can add up quickly.
I would wait till they got all the bugs out of the Hell Creek kits. Nothing personal against Tom but there has been issues recently.

"best" depends on what you need. How do you want to use your truck? (Keep in mind that in stock form these things are unstoppable in many parts of the world.)

What size tires do you want to use?

OK, enough with the irritating questions...now for some answers...

The cheapest lift is just to use add-a-leafs (long only, don't use shorts). $50 per axle. 1" - 2" in lift. There will be "sweat equity" involved. Maybe also new u-bolts (approx $25 per axle).

Next step is longer shackles...lots of options...assume $100 axle and you are safe. 1" longer shackle gives 1/2" lift.

The OME kit is well engineered, and while expensive, most agree is worth the money. There are not a lot of LC's so parts are more expensive.

I tried the cheap route when the Ironman springs were being sold on ebay. Good deal for the money I guess but dealing with the stiff ride is getting on my nerves. Save up and go OME or Alcan....

My opinion? Buy cruiser88's used OME kit. Good quality kit for a budget price. If you do a cheapy lift, you may end up with an unsafe truck.

X2. cruiser88's deal is a great deal. Really, with the nice shackles he's offering up with it, it's an excellent, super buy. I highly recommend you go this route as you won't find better for less, and you can certainly get worse for more.

Plus if you buy them, there's a good chance you'll make C88's "asshat of the month".
