dad talked to a lexus dealer about ignition switch and they said the key has a chip in it that has to have the code set to the ignition. which the dealer has to do and charges $65 for. i was under the impression that only the 1998 and newer had the chips in them. any one know? this means i cant do the install?

thanks mike

450's are not chipped but the keys do have that odd laser cut shape and the blanks are around 45 bucks I think. I can't buy them because they are Lexus only.

You might try sourcing the blanks off of one of these internet sites, and probably save a buck or two. I think if you check around, you can then get them cut locally.

i already have the keys coming
along with all new locks
so i guess if any ones looking for a used set of lexus locks along with the main key let me know.

Definitely no chip. I was able to find a local locksmith who had the laser-cut machine and blanks.
