Has anyone had a problem with the plastic loop, where the key attaches to the keychain, on a '96-'97 LX-450? (This is the key with no chip and keyless entry is separate from the key.) It broke out on the side for me, I tried to JB-weld it but it broke again! Anyone have any suggestions?

Don't have this issue even though I have 7+ keys on mine. I'd suggest ordering new one(s) and keep the broken one as a (hidden) spare.

Well I will probably end up buying an extra key but I hate to have a $60+ key as a spare/hide-a-key...Not exactly what I want to do...

ps sjcruiser what are "triple locks"?

barrypt5,

I know, I know...the luxury of owning a Lexi is that we get to bend down showing up at the dealer for this (not even mentioning the LS folks with the builtin remote keys - a screaming $350+ each!!!)
btw,
triple locks = center diff. lock + rear diff. lock + front diff. lock :)

Why not just drill a hole in it and be done with it.
New keys are expensive -- damned laser cut keys

When I bought my LX450, I made sure I got all the keys -- they were short 1 master key. I made sure I got that before I sealed the deal.

Local dealer can copy keys for about $30 IIRC. I did that and it works fine, not all dealers can do this though so you might have to call around.

 thats all I'm going to say........................... :flipoff2:

I noticed my father's Lexus key cracked in the middle part of the plastic. He slid a plastic/rubber tube over it and it seems like it works. Been at least a year now.

my buddy used shrink tube on his...I guess it depends on where the crack is. FWIW

I'd just drill a hole through it in a different spot, what do you have to lose? You're thinking of buying a new key anyway. Course the real problem here is you shouldn't have any other keys. The Lexus key in your pocket, garage door opener in the Cruiser and you're set! :D
