2002 Lexus IS300, sedan, automatic, 127,000 miles.
Wanted to see here if anyone had some good ideas on how to diagnose an issue I am having with my IS300. What is going on is that there is, when cruising down the road there is occasionally a ½ second where there seems to be a loss of power. This is usually felt when driving down the highway but can happen going as slow as 30mph. It usually happens when driving a consistent speed but I believe it happens when the gas pedal is just barely pressed/depressed. When this is happening there are no indications such as misfiring, check engine light, the tachometer does not move, but the gas meter (dial that goes up and down) moves to the better MPG numbers immediately like I took my foot off of the gas.
What I or my mechanic have done:
Me: Cleaned the throttle body
Me: Cleaned the mass air flow
Him: Re-adjusted the accelerator cable
Him: Checked for any thrown codes
I am worried that it could be an issue with the torque converter locking/unlocking but I can’t understand why that would create a momentary loss of power and why the fuel meter would move. My mechanic initially said he thought it could be the throttle position indicator but later said that since the car is not throwing any codes and the car idles perfectly at idle that it likely was not it.
Please let me know of your thoughts!
