Rob I noticed in the "what have you done" thread that you have both a double din head unit (pioneer) and an iPad. Wondering what your thoughts might be?

In what regard? To the head unit itself or ipad integration??? Happy to answer.

If you are referring to sending the output of a phone to the head unit display it's a waste of time UNLESS you have a headunit that has full app integration like App Radio 3 or NEX series from Pioneer. There is too much interaction with the apps to make it much fun to touch the phone to see it on the headunit. these later headunits have full app integration and control via the touch screen.

Having said that - nothing beats the native iPad experience in usability. every app works as intended and as a media screen the iPad is higher res than the headunit. BT audio from the iPad to the headunit is pretty slick and sounds great.

Thanks Rob, good answers. I had assumed you did have a App Radio or NEX version. I was hoping to get your experience with controlling the phone fully through the head unit touch screen. Its not clear to me yet that all of the apps on the phone can be touch-controlled from the head units, or only those with app radio support. For example GPS-Motion X Drive is supported but not MotionX.

Agree on the iPad for display, but I don't have one, and not sure I want one mounted in the cruiser just yet.

Bought it from Crutchfield. Very inexpensive. Loved it! I ran the micro cable to the top of the windshield (hidden) right next to the rear v mirror. Works great. Instant hookup to iphone via Bluetooth. Can handle different phones plus your contacts go to it. Did the brake bypass so I can play YouTube or movies (I never do) while the car is in motion. The reason I did this is to bypass the need to put the brake on then off and back on to use the video feature. No extra to buy just tie cables. Charges my phone when plugged in to it, always a plus. W the mirror link you can use google maps or whatever for navigation plus the sound comes thru the speakers. It mutes the music with the prompts and then plays again. Only thing I didn't add was the rear view camera, instead I added a Bazooka tube plug and play and it's perfect.
Cheers
