The :princess: suggested i get flares for my fj so that i can run slightly wider tires (i was planning on 9.5's).

I was wondering if you guys could post pics of your flares and tell me the brand and if you cut out any of the opening, or if its a stock opening.

I would consider doing bushwacker cutout flares but dont know how much they actually open up the wheel well.

Welcome.

Hit the F A Q <---- this is a link

This frequently asked question has been covered well many times.

I really do not think you are going to need flares for a 9.5" tire.....

no she thinks 10.5" tires....which in NJ would require flares if im gonna avoid rubbing (esp if i have to space to avoid it).

I checked the FAQ, and even searched and didnt find what i was lookin for, doesnt answer my question about how much to cut off with the bushwacker, nor did i see any photos of trucks with bushwackers in the FAQ. Lots of posts on TJ flares...but if i wanted THAT look i woulda gotten a TJ.

So you went through all of these links from the FAQ and none of them were of any help?

Yup and not really, couple of pics of SOR flares (not sure how they compare to Bushwacker), and mostly TJ flares. But noone who says, well i cut X inches out of my fenders, or has a before and after. There is no way im putting TJ flares on my truck with 33's...nor do i particularly like the look (once again, if i wanted something that looked like a jeep...). I'd like to see some pics of trucks with bushwackers, and have an idea of how much people are cutting out to use the bushwackers or the other cut out flares available.

33x10.50 MT's on this 1979 40 series without flares.... :meh:

Because your short wheel base, two door, removable top Toyota does not already look like one to a person that does not know better....

Thanks for the pics...looks like they stick out a touch...too bad NJ is so insane about the tire law (the ones on my frontier stick out less than 1/8th of an inch and they wont let it pass inspection). I guess with some small spacers, and 10.5's, with flares it should be just about right and not rub.

Shoot, I was afraid you were gonna ask me about the backspacing. :o I've never taken the time to measure them. I might actually have a wheel off tomorrow, and if I do I'll get a measurement for you.

The tires don't rub the flares at all. I'll get a small rub against the tub when I'm twisted up, and then a pretty good rub against the fender when I'm loaded down and bottom out. Not enough to ding the tire or tweak the fender, just get your attention, and its pretty unusual for that to happen.

Hope this help,
B.

Cool.
Here is a quicky phone pic of how the width works out. ...ignore the rust...
