Hey Guys,

The driver side seat of my LX 470 ('99 with 180,000 miles) has some wear on the bottom seat and I was wondering what my options are?

Should I look into re-upholstering it vs buying another used seat (any one) or can I buy the cover from a discounted Lexus/Toyota dealership?

Please advice.

Thanks

Either replace or rub some conditioner in it.
Option one: There is a fellow on MUD that will do all the seats in a 100 or any combination of seats (fronts, rears, 3rd row, etc.) to your color. They look really good!
Option two: A week or two ago there was a post and discussion about leather care products.
If you do a search, I'm sure you will find it in very short time.

I would recommend re-conditioning as a first step. I had good results with Colorplus products and Joanne there is great to work with. With that said, it certainly won't restore them to like-new condition, but it's way cheaper and good enough for many.

Not sure what your local professional options are for re-conditioning, but I had an experience using a guy recommended by my Lexus dealer that didn't last a year - it peeled/chipped off like paint on your gutters. There was no guarantee, but I did know that prior to doing it. It cost me $160 (front seat bottoms only) while Colorplus was less than half of that (and that was because I had Joanne do a custom color match that was spot on). Prior to going to Lexus, I went to another very well respected interior guy and he said he doesn't re-condition leather as it can be hit or miss - I didn't like his answer as I really wanted him to do the work but in retrospect I understand and respected him for it.

If you use Colorplus, follow the directions to the tee. It's not complicated but I tend to skip details/steps, which can lead to less than ideal results.
