Any news on the new springs or the 5 speed?

I just got back to the land of Big Brother from the US. I was in New York and Mass. for a month. I have been busily putting on some of the toys I brought back with me: 3.70 gears, new mirrors, bikini top....:D

Cheers,

Josh

Ummmm, just something from earlier in the thread, Australia still has privately owned firearms, just that the good ones are heavily restricted (pump action shotguns and all semi auto longarms) It's a disgrace, but there you go. Anyway, hijack over.

Josh to bad I didn't know you were in the area. I'm in Rhode Island, close enough to spit into Mass. If you ever come back through the area you we'll have to go out for a few

Somebody's been slackin.....

Yeah I been slacking on updating my progress. I've gotten a lot done in the past 6 months.

I have rebuilt a spare 2F that I picked up. Head job, rings, bearings and gaskets.

A buddy of mine rebuilt the t-case and installed the parking brake kit I picked up from Man-A-Fre and redid some seals on the H55 as well as the oiler cup which was missing (glad we found that).

I have pulled out the H41/tcase, seats, wire harness, and all the dash components. The bed is off and sitting on my car trailer. I hope to have the cab off and start sand blasting the frame in the next month or so.

Made some plates for the 60 series steering box and made up some sleeves. Its ready to get welded once I get it all apart.
Sooooo thats where we stand at this point. I will have to take some update pics.:frown:

Oh yeah and I decided to change the tail lights around. I kept coming off rocks and catching the trailer lights. I set it up for some FJ40 lights. Purists may not like it.

I'm with John on this one Jason. No pics, no progress. Sorry.;)

I should be in New York in Jan and Feb, 2011. We will need to meet up while I am there... may be the only way I'll get to see progress on your rig.

Regards,

Josh

Well I have been getting some work done. Got the H55 sitting in the fame on its new mounts. Just need some gussets and final welding. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic but at least its progress.

That H55 looks great, I hardly recognise it. How will you paint the frame when you get it done? I've always wanted to do what you're doing and then hot-dip galvanise.

Where in RI are you? I thought you were in NH... My Dad and step-mother live in South Dartmouth, Ma. We will be up to see them as well while we are there, so we need to organise a meet-up and a beer. I can't wait to see your rig by then.

Well I picked up some black diamond (same stuff as blace beauty) to blast some of the areas I was going to plate. Did a fair amount of work yestrday. Some progress with the plating and tranny mount.

Once its blasted I'm planning on painting it with SEM rust sheild. Supposed to be some good stuff.

Located in Pawtucket RI. I don't think we are more than 45 minutes from South Dartmouth if not closer. We'll have to put together a pub night when you are around.

Thanks JP. You'll have to come by and see it in person.

Didn't have a whole lot of time to work on it today but I was able to fill some of the holes left from the previous owner. He had a piece of structrual steel welded and bolted to it. To fill the bolt holes I found a bolt that fit then I cut some 1/4" slivers and welded them into place. Seemed to work pretty well.

Tip for filling holes: Place a piece of copper sheet behind the hole and hold it in place with a clamp of some sort. I used a scrap piece of 2" copper tube that I split down the middle and flattened out. Then rosette weld the hole closed with your favorite welder. Unclamp the copper and snap it off the back. Grind down flat.

I find aluminium works as well.

Very nice build.

With the 3" lift and 35's will you need to cut the fenders or wheel wells? My 33x10.50 with 2" lift rub on the drag link and ruin the boot on the end of it. They also rub on the top lip of the fender when fully stuffed.

Thanks for the tip Fox. I have heard of doing that before but I didn't know if these holes were too big for that. I'll have to try it out the next time I need to fill holes.

Thanks. If the springs that I got it with were stock I'm guessing the 3.5" will be enough. I could always go with larger shackles if they aren't. The reason I wen't with 3.5" is to keep it low enough so I don't get hassled by the cops around here but I also wanted something larget than a 33.

I was running 33x10.5.15 swamper before with the stock setup and it would also rub in the drag link and ruin the boot. With the 60 series steering I'm hoping that won't be a problem.
