I'm very new to the LC and IH8MUD. I know there are a bunch of threads on this issue and I've read through the majority of them and just wanted to get some input. I had OME torsion bars, 60000 & 60002 shocks, and 860 coils installed four days ago and have driven it every day. I noticed some grease on the ground and climbed under it to take a look. Attached is a picture of where the grease is coming from (same on both sides) and a picture of my LC. It seems like most of the pictures I've seen of leaky CV joints are the lower boots. I think the grease from mine is coming from the top going to the differential. I've noticed about 10 drops of grease on the ground so far along with the grease thrown under the LC. Is this an excessive amount of leakage? Should I be concerned? Does a diff drop normally solve / help the issue? I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to the matter and appreciate any help!

If your boots are in good condition, all you need are the screw clamps to replace the ones on there now. You can get them from pfran or buy them from McMaster Carr.

The part numbers are:

http://www.mcmaster.com

#5574K25 (4-4 3/4')
#5574K16 (1-1 5/8')

Take off the old ones (carefully and don't cut or pinch the boot) and replace with the above. Make sure you place the clamps in the exact position as the factory clamps. Problem over. No one has experienced any issue with balance using these clamps.

Tighten them with a 1/4" ratchet rather and a screw driver. Make sure they are snug and don't cut the boot.

Good idea to keep a few extra.

Jemsec. Thanks for the information. The boots appear to be OK. Do i need to replace any of the grease that has been lost?

You might add some if you think you have lost a substantial amount. But given the time you have had problems you may be ok. If you want, buy some grease from a Toyota dealer, that offers discounts, and add as much as you like. It can be a mess so be ready.

. . . and a diff drop will help return the CVs to near stock angles. Some report no change, others do.

The differential drop is a good upgrade. I have one and know it helps with dynamics.

Clamps from pfran on the way. Slee or BIOR a better option for the diff drop or is there any difference? I know BIOR says theirs drop 7/8". Also I read in another thread that if the grease is grey that it needs to be completely cleaned out and regreased. Any thoughts? Thanks again for the input.

Gray indicates water has mixed with the grease. If you are ready for an axle rebuild, there are several threads here that will take you step by step.
