I have a 1983 FJ60 with a PCV valve that's throwin out oil, coating the air filter and cover. I replaced the valve and the oil level is normal.
Any ideas?

I am interested in this as well...similar situation...oil collecting in the bottom of the air-cleaner assembly (inside) and on the back of the valve cover...although I suspect the hose that goes from the back of the valve cover to the air cleaner housing, as the PCV Valve is new, the oil galley plug is fine and there is oil build up around the aforementioned, small elbow hose.

Trapper or Skeevoza any chance you can take a pic of the oil leak outside the air filter. Think mine is doing the same but checked the air filter last night and nothing in there? Thinking I will replace the PCV, Grommet, and hose but not sure if that is where the oil is coming from for me.

look at my thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=8127483&postcount=59

to see my blowby, which was preceded in death by huge amounts of gunk in the air cleaner and fouled air filters.
This is ring blowby, as the head was rebuilt and is good
No pic of the air cleaner/filter, but that is a positive air flow, when it SHOULD be a negative pressure - air
draw from inside the air filter and drawn into the PCV valve. In this case, it is blowing out the intake port.
Not good - also, lost of power and gas mileage was getting bad

Since I am switching to SBC, that was end of that 2F

Do you have a good vacuum, as in correct PVC vent hose hook up?
Your PCV functional?

Looked at your blowby pics. BUT:

-Where is the PCV? Can't see it.
-If installed, is it installed vertically?
-What are the other hoses and T?
-Is the blowby @ idle or brief accel.?
-Are the vac lines to the PCV installed correctly?

PCV is back in there on the left, behind the hoses

it is (was) installed vertically, with a good vacum draw on it.

the other hoses are various vacs for the desmog, done a couple of years ago

as the RPMs climb so does the blue smoke coming OUT of the INTAKE hole on the valve cover

and yes the fac lines to the PCV were correct.

This was working fine for the past couple of years, until a few months before I threw in the towel, then gas mileage dropped from 14 down to 11-12 range, not as strong anymore, and then the mess in the air cleaner area. newly rebuilt head, so the valves were fine - just the rings left for a possible cause.

gases going down by the rings, into the crankcase, then up the push rod holes and then out the clean air intake hole.

The engine was very abused when I got the rig at 189k. I got to 238k. When I got it, the oil was very "gunky", the coolant was red as Moab rock, carb was giving me 7-8 mpg (I switch to Trollhole's carb - wonderful carb), and a host other issues. I think I got the best I could out of the motor, but it was tired, and I didn't want to spend more money on it than I needed to. It is fully retired (and stripped) now.
