A buddy of mine and I just swapped a third member into the front axle of my 62 it is leaking bad enough that it needs to be fixed pronto. We used a paper gasket and no sealant.

Any suggestions of how to fix this leak without tearing the axle down again? Slide the differ carrier out enough to squeeze some Permatex in there? Is that possible?

I don't think you will get enough room to just pull it against the drive axles.
And also the surface is now contaminated with diff oil...So sealants are not going to stick.
Only one real way to do it.
Pull it down again and start over.
Giving the mating surfaces a real good clean and de-grease.
I don't use gaskets and use Locktite 518 master gasket.

I always thoroughly clean all mating surfaces and use a top-quality sealant to avoid just such unpleasantness ...

You can try cleaning the spot/s where it's leaking and smear some black RTV, trying to push it down into the joint. Might work for a bit, but eventually, that great pumpkin is gonna have to fly, Charlie Brown.

damn it man

either you or your buddy sucks, take it apart and do it over!!!!!!!!
