You should have no problem on the towing. My Tacoma with the 3.4 V6 and 33's with 40HP less than the FJ pulled my bass boat with NP about the same weight.

2. I haven't looked into lifts much yet, I remember the OME was a popular lift with the FJ-40s. I'm wondering if those lifts are different than a spacer lift and whether they would void a factory warranty.

P.S. I drove by the transmission place on Pinhook Monday and the tan FJ-40 was gone...I felt a little sad inside.

The wife noticed it before I did. I offered them the parts to fix that lady's rig and they never called me back. I wanted to call to see if they fixed it or hauled it off to someone else.

Nice to hear back from you. I will tell you that on a coil sprung truck, it is pretty common to add spacers to increase the lift. I prefer using correct/longer springs myself. IMHO, its like the lift blocks of coil spring suspensions...LMAO.

X2 and by using the spacers you compress the springs which gives you a much stiffer spring rate causing a stiff ride. When the Tacoma's came out I must have installed 10 or more of those spacer lifts. Later they came out with adjustable front coils that you could crank them up and down to get that better ride when you didn't need all the clearance. Like the old IFS setups with the torsion bars couldn't wait to crank them to fit those big swampers and after driving it like that for awhile you could wait to crank them down for the ride.

caught up with the red 40 today. guy's name was issac and had a red ('84?) 40 and a blue 60. also had a bj in costa rica. said he used to live in lafayette so he might know some of yall. he is also friends with the guy who owns Specter off road and his rig is featured in one of the stories in the catalog. he told me to stop by later with my 40, so ill bring him a card (though i did tell him about the club)

Wow, that is awesome. I would sure enjoy talking with him and hearing his stories. I'll look in my Specter catalog tonight. And a 84, when you get a chance to go by take some pics? Good work bud.

im sure hell have a lot; he said he would drive his 60 series (which he said has over 500,000 miles on it) all the way to costa rica and back.

went to check out his rigs again. his is an '82 not an '84, sry. but yea, really nice guy, has property in Costa Rica and has a BJ down there. gave him a card and put the url to MUD and my email on it and he said he'll shoot me an email with some pictures. seemed interested in the club and be a cool guy to go wheeling with

I'd bet money that Theriot knows. Watch for his post. The dude is a plethera of cruiser knowledge! BTW, I wouldn't count out Landry either. I could do the quick research and post it, but these guys prolly know it off the top of their heads.

The only wheelbase number I have memorized (for about 10 years now) is that the FJ/BJ 25,FJ/BJ40, FJ/BJ42 70-series and Bandeirantes all have 90 inch even Wheelbase.

I'd have to look up any others...

Wow thats nice and it looks like someone has done a good job of cleaning it up or a partial restoration. Its very clean from the pics. Just when he's ready to pull the trigger on the deal he's working.

Diesel Ranting

Speaking of imported cruisers, years ago there was a guy ( Darren Bierman I think was his name) who was importing and selling diesel land cruisers. He pretty much started the whole JDM importing thing. I remember him selling nice BJ40's for 5k online, but it was all TEXT based internet back then. Like usenet, etc. Anyway, he later started lostguide.com (was a really fancy and cool website...no longer up) and the whole JDM importing thing really took off. One of his rigs has been shown on CCOT site for years. He's still around I hear. Anyway, I used to research and read all about the diesel cruisers and even had a friend who went and got one and drove it all the way back to Louisiana as well. Anyway, what I decided for myself, was that the BJ40/42 was the bomb. Guys would swap their H diesels for the B's in FJ45 pickups all the time. The B diesel is big time commercial engine...though smaller in displacement, it has sleeved pistons and sprays underneath the pistons as well. Guys generally preferred B's over H's. The B series would last longer and turbo-charged they were awesome. The H's could only be rebuilt/bored-over once since they weren't sleeved. That coupled with the fact that the BJ40's have the same body panels which are readily available, makes them easier to restore. It is harder to find body parts for BJ70's and other models. That said, I like that the troopy also uses alot of the same body panels, hood,etc as the 40. The 1982 model troopies have the larger 2H in them. Oh yeah, my favorite is the BJ42 with 3B in it. I'd be interested in one even if it were rusty. I like the 5 speed tranny, and the 3B...the 3B turboed = 13-BT which puts out same HP and Torque as the 2F. I like that motor alot...the B is only 2.9L or so. The 3B 3.4L. I'd even consider ditching my FJ40 for one....that's how much I like them...I'd even consider a rusty Canadian spec. one at the right price....guess I'm just ranting...did I mention that I love diesel? Yeah, guess I did....maybe I will just get a Catahoula and name him that instead....

I can't imagine that that rig would go for something under 15 -17K and then there's shipping from CALIFORNIA.... that's gotta hurt a bit. (At the moment) I don't think the VT rig is a bad deal for what you get. Yeah, it's gasoline/propane but let's face it, it's a very very good price. If I had the choice, I'd take a 12HT in the troopy w/ an H55 behind it

Now also, I don't really plan (yet) on buying another rig on ebay w/o knowing them, getting someone else to look at it or me looking at it. This guy is different (I'd think) b/c it's PVCruiser's rig. I've called them many times before and emailed them about different rigs ... no response.

We'll watch and see. I think the deal I'm working on is still ok for the price and what you get.
