Was driving to harbor freight this afternoon when i crossed a forest green 40 in traffic, pulled a simi illegal u turn to try and invite him to the meeting Sunday but that long light at the old academy store caught me, was long gone by the time it changed.

I think that's the dude that works at the Chevron building. I think some attempts have already been made with him.

Did you make some people sh** when you pulled that U?

Not really, I waited till it was pretty much clear and my truck turns alot better to the left than the right. I think thats why I wasnt able to catch him, damn non reckless driving, I should have just hoped the other guys had the since to hit the brakes .

saw another 40 today in mandeville. it was red, full hardtop w/ ambulance doors, lifted and tires. looked pretty big. he was heading in the other direction and by the time i turned around he made it through alight which i had to stop. he was headed towards lacombe and i went that way to see if he turned off around there but no go. i did see a fj60 for sale though. it was like a metallic light blue. sorta like that light blue color on those tacomas, but metallic

New Orleans rigs and other

Seems that there is quite the following in New Orleans. I was jotting down all of the various makes and models of Land Cruisers that I've had the privilege of owning. I remembered that I sold my
1963 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser to a guy from New Orleans.

I would like to know what became of that rig. It was white. Factory tailgate. Very solid rig.

Finally, I propose to visit the New Orleans crew ASAP. I'd like very much to drive my rig to one of their gatherings.

Hey I'm new here and will check out the club. I used to have a 72 FJ-40 and I'm always looking too, though probably not buying one.

I have been seeing that one at the transmission shop on Pinhook between Kaliste Saloom and Verot for about 6 months now.

I also was recently working around Center, TX and there is a white FJ-40 at a house on the road between Shelbyville and Center. If I'm out that way again I will stop and get some info.

OH, I took a FJ Cruiser home from Hampton last night and I am 100% sure I will be buying one. If anyone can give me some tips for getting the best deal I would appreciate it. I have been lurking in a few forums and I'm thinking I should go with a relatively stripped version with the locker and go with aftermarket pasrts from there.

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks.

Glad to have you on...the FJ is quite a capable rig. I thing you're right on with the FJ purchase.

I hear you regarding that one on Pinhook...seems like its been there forever...

Oh, this is baaaaaaddd. Taking a car home is like going to "look" at puppies.... you NEVER leave w/o one. LOL... You're toast.

The trucks are nice rigs (w/ A/C) and we've seen first hand what they can do w/ stock tires no less. I agree on the stripping as long as you have the cash to add the stock stuff. One thought is that if the dealer would offer some things (like ARB front bumper) as an option, it may be less painful to put it into the price to finance it rather than buy it outright (which would be cheaper, however). You can add a bunch of Demello sliders etc..

As far as price, honestly each time I bought a truck in my last 3 I've gotten online, printed all the "local" dealers (ex. Baton Rouge, Franklin, Lafayette, Jeanerette etc...) and wrote the numbers down. Called all, gave em my email or phone number and asked for the "best price". I hate arguing so I always went w/ the lowest price. Sometimes HUGE differences. Curiously, Franklin has beaten everyone w/ my last 2 GMC's. There is also a Toyota dealer there.

Last, you can talk w/ Musson and see what they can do for you. They've been very good to us.

Good luck

Get the FJ! You're right on with the stripped down version with lockers. I'm still amazed at what a relatively stock FJ can do (of course, I'm still floored by what my stock FJ 62 can do). Good luck. I'd shop Musson too if I were you. Hampton has some nice rigs on the lot as well. Let's see some pics ASAP.

Oh, and welcome! :flipoff2:

Welcome. Nothing new to add but you'll make a better deal at Musson as they sponsor and support the club. Also I saw that B&M 4x4 on Jefferson were putting lifts and tires on some of the dealership trucks. It may be an option to have the dealership take it to them to outfit it with what you want and finance the total purchase through the dealership. Keep in touch.

I couldn't find her card the other day, but I found it today. Rachael Toups at Musson 337-367-0488 or 866-687-6611 a good looking little gal that likes cruisers. :D

Just thought of this tonight after reading your post again. Remember we're open to all Toyota trucks...not just the cruisers. We'd love to have you if you end up w/ and FJC.

Good luck

Thanks for the warm welcome. I haven't been able to reply until now.

I'm working around Searcy, AR right now and I went to the dealer yesterday and test drove a Tundra and another FJC. The Tundra seemed to "surge" on the highway, almost like it was pulling a trailer. I noticed after that I had left the automatic transmission in 4th so maybe that was the problem.

The FJC had a "spacer lift" and BFG A/T tires (the same tires I had on my Fj-40). It rode like a dream and that lift won't void the warranty according to the dealer. I guess it's just a cosmetic lift though.

As far as dealing, I told the salesman my local dealer (Hampton) told me I was crazy if I thought I could get a FJ for less than $1500 over invoice. The Arkansas guy says we only sell invoice so I was a little excited. Then when the test drive was over he said he thought I meant MSRP. I hauled ass but at least I got to see how one with a spacer lift felt.

I will check into Musson as soon as I get back, or probably give them a call while I'm still here. I stopped at All-Star in Baton Rouge Monday and the salesman said he usually sells for $6-700 over invoice. I'm confident I can get what I want for $25-26k.

There are two things I'd appreciate any input on:

1. Would the FJC @ 5000lb towing capacity be capable of reliably pulling a bay boat in the 18-21' range? (I've searched different forums and aven't have much luck on finding an answer. The 18' boat I was looking at was listed at 2400 lbs including trailer.)

2. I haven't looked into lifts much yet, I remember the OME was a popular lift with the FJ-40s. I'm wondering if those lifts are different than a spacer lift and whether they would void a factory warranty.

P.S. I drove by the transmission place on Pinhook Monday and the tan FJ-40 was gone...I felt a little sad inside.
