Hi everyone, i just got my 1998 japan imported recond and i cant read japanese.. I need an english handbook, wonder if u guys know of any online ebook or maybe a CD. I can buy..? I especially doest really familiar with the GPS (electro multi vision) .. Thanx.

Dear Equest, Sorry to pour cold water over your head, the Japanese GPS by Denso will not work in the UK, it is specifically meant for the Japanese market. I bought a similar car model year 2005, only managed to get the radio and TV to work ordering the components from the UK.

The rest of the multifunction monitor works e.g. the fuel/speed/air con/reverse camera/Telephone numbers/Bluetooth/etc etc computers but you will have to link the Japanese text to the UK, that's where the UK manual comes in very useful....

You can download an English manual for the US petrol version from here...Download PDF Toyota Land Cruiser 1998 - 2007 Service Manual | PDFTown.com. Don't buy CD from UK as most just are downloads from the site given and selling them by adding some extra rubbish. (My experience!). The difference is the engine of course.

Some things are exclusively Japanese e.g. cruise control max. speed limit is 110 kph, (have not been able to reset that yet).

Other than the slight inconveniences, I have been enjoying my car, have so far driven 47,000km after owning it for a year. Still love it and (touch wood) no problems so far..... Hope you enjoy yours :D

When looking for an US English manual try and get one for the Lexus LX470 rather than the Land Cruiser. I'm not sure the multivision was available on the LC but it was on the LX.

The manual I downloaded at the given site was for an LC, it does not include the AHC section. But it has the LX470 radio and DVD and GPS sections.

Only thing is that you have to print it out and re-arrange all the page numbers as they were jumbled up during the scans. But nonetheless, quite complete and I am very grateful to have found it for download.... so far - this is the only one for the LC I have found...

Still looking for a manual for the diesel FTE engine manual....:bang:

If you need some basic translations of the Japanese screens for the car computer - I may be able to give you some limited screens equivalents comparing the Japanese and UK cars..... like the last 2 pics of the screens in my 1st post. PM me - anyway I am not Japanese, but I have cracked my head for quite a while on this..

Thanks lai, That's my real headache..I have been browsing the net for days hoping to get one english translated manual but none found....I really appreciate if you can help me on this... I really dont like to have something that I dont know how to operate and such a dissapointment for me to have it(GPS) on board.. until come into the extend that I'm thinking of getting my friend's wife (a japanese) to guide me through it... I'm really thankful to you for this...you may also email to me at yatasabah@gmail.com if necessary.. cheers

Hi Equest

If you are looking for a Japanese translated manual, forget it. There is no such animal. The closest I got to was I bought a manual 'translated' in New Zealand - no GPS stuff inside.

Mmmm - I would love to have a Japanese lady sitting next to me in the car and telling me all there is to know, frankly! :bounce:

You have a slightly different version screen compared to mine, but essentially they are the same. I will go through my archives later and see if they are similar. Will e-mail you the results... as I cannot upload too many pictures in this thread...

Interesting looking screen protector you have there... :)

Regards

Thnx lai, appreciate that.. Cant wait to try it out.. Anyhow please take your time.. BTW please let me hv your full address so that i can send somethin' for u as a token of appreciation.. Am from sabah, malaysia... Ever been here?

Dear Equest

It is great to meet a Sabahan in this forum - all because of a common passion of owning a LC !

Since you are not in a hurry, do send me the rest of screen shots you want to figure out and I can do them at the same time. (I have just PM you my e-mail address). The reason is that I will be visiting Vietnam during the Chinese New Year holidays for 10 days.

I don't think I can help you on the GPS section of the car - this is because the GPS will not even link to the satellites to start even moving without a local map. (The Denso GPS in the LC do not make a Malaysia/Singapore map in DVD!!!) The best alternative is to buy a Garmin NUVI GPS locally where you have access to free Malaysian/Singapore/Southern Thailand maps and they are updated weekly from this website : My ASEAN Free GPS Map Project • View forum - Free Public Downloads

I have a Garmin Nuvi 1460 (Local version) as shown here.... free or paid maps for whole Asean/Indochina region are available and updated frequently - it has taken me driving with convoys to Thailand/Laos/Vietnam/China several times already!

Meanwhile, have a good Chinese New Year holiday and Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!
