I bought this beauty in March 2016. My wife had been rear ended in our BMW Z3 a few months earlier and said she no longer felt safe driving it because it was too small and she felt vulnerable. Wel-l-l, I had been watching out for one of these for some time, and jumped on this opportunity to get serious – found this online, made a day trip to Tempe, Arizona, traded in the Bimmer and drove it home that night. She loves driving it because now she feels safe.
This is a 2008 Base model, and the only mod I’m aware of is the bull bar with fog lights. Had 93k miles when we bought it and 122k now. We’ve had some fun trips to Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. Solid rig that ‘s never let us down.
Forward to last March when I saw an ad for a 2008 Trail Teams Edition. Yikes, it was a looker – long story short, we drove a rental car to Michigan, inspected, test drove, bought it, dropped off the rental and drove our second FJC back to New Mexico.
Problem now is there’s me and my wife, a 3 car garage and 4 vehicles. Just a few years back we had 5 vehicles, and playing musical cars got to be ridiculous, so I culled the herd to 3 and life got a lot less complicated.
Well, here I am again, and between the 2008 Tacoma (I need a truck), 1977 FJ40 (it’s our Sunday Joyrider!) and the 2 FJ Cruisers I had to choose which one to put up for sale. This one is the logical choice.
It’s a southwest rig, Sandstorm, body is in original condition, no accidents, no repainted sections, garage kept. I recently replaced the original front struts and rear shocks with Bilsteins 5100s.
In both of the above pix you can see where I wiped the frame behind the shocks to show how clean the metal is. This rig’s strongest selling point I believe is being a rust-free rig with relatively low mileage that hasn’t been hard 4-wheeled and beat up. For the price you’ll have a clean slate for making it your own – leave it as it is, or make it into whatever kind of rig you’ve dreamed of, but without having to start with frame and body rust issues like so many of these wonderful rigs suffer from.
