Whats the largest socket and or wrench that one would typically use for DIY stuff on the cruiser? My current set goes to 20 mm I think and I know I need at least a 26mm to change the Diff fluid. Also... would you get 12pt or 6 pt

17, 19, 21, 22 are common, plus 30 for torsion bars. Six point preferable to minimize rounding. Assortment of extensions, + wobble.

Hi, Large compressor with a good impact gun makes it easy and you don't break as many bolts. Need a socket for front hubs I just bought the OTC made for Toyota. Mike

54mm hub nut socket.

Differential plugs up front are 10mm hex, rears are metric socket type but I can't recall the size offhand.

You can accomplish a lot with a 12, 14, 17, 19 and 21mm on our trucks.

What year/model is your Cruiser?

But yeah, the largest socket is the 54mm (2-1/8") for the front hub.

Most diff/trans drain/fill plugs are 24mm. Wheel lug nuts are usually 21mm. If you have leaf springs, the U-bolts may be 22mm. There's a big nut inside the split transfer case that is 36mm.

My aluminum 3/4" drive socket wrench and steel sockets have been one of my better investments. I have an impact wrench, but this is so much quicker, cleaner, quieter. And I never strain to loosen stuff. My 1" drive hasn't seen much use, but sometimes the sockets are just the right size to push in a bearing or seal.

Depends on your truck.
A 40, 55 and 60 was, IMHO, designed to be worked on with basic hand tools.
Personally I feel that you shouldn't ever need a special tool or air tool to work on one of these models (though the air tools certainly speed things along and can make things nicer).

My list of hand tools is pretty much every socket and end wrench from 8mm - 24mm in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" drive. Along with several different extensions, and a breaker bar (which can be supplemented with a hilift jack handle). I do have a 2-1/8" craftsman socket I use for front bearings. I can carry all necessary tools to work on my FJ40 in a small-ish tool box.

Once you get into the computer controlled stuff like the 62, 80, 100 etc then things get trickier.

One of the things that bugs me about my tacoma is that there are many wear items that require special service tools (hydraulic press, etc) to service.

I guess I gotta buy a shop press. ..
