Looks cool, Wouldn't it be neat if you could custom install a 7" touch LCD screen (replace the stock radio) and hide the laptop somewhere or just build a custom housing for the motherboard (im thinking the center console) You'll have all the capabilities of a PC! GPS/NAV, MP3, Video, wireless, USB.... all that stuff..... I've been thinking about it.... Has anyone too?

Why settle for 7" when you can get 8"...... :grinpimp:

8" LCD Monitor

You say surf the web while driving, does your city just one giant hot-spot? I don't see how that aspect of it works, or do you use satellite internet? That is one extremely sweet job there, soon enough I plan to mount my lappy in my LC, gonna route it to the radio for MP3 usage, and when near my home or school, could probably surf the web. Might also get a DVD drive for my laptop and use it is a DVD player.

Where did you get that from again, and how about a little more information on that aspect of this project.

If you have GSM wireless networks in your area, go to your wireless provider and ask them about Aircards. Once you add a data plan to your existing GSM phone plan you can simply slip your SIM into your Aircard, and access the internet from anywhere there have GSM/GPRS networks. Speeds might only reach around 200kbps but that sure beats 56kbps that your modem would provide.

My provider is going to set me up with a low monthly plan, which I plan to offset in $ by cancelling most my cable TV for the summer. It will be unlimited data for the first 3 months, with no commitment. This is great because after the 3 months I can see what sort of data I was using, and choose an appropriate plan.

Again, I'd speak to your wireless provider...ask them about 'EDGE' technology and surfing the web wirelessly on your laptop via an 'Aircard'.

I'm totally new to this, and will need a few weeks to get up and running, but in the meantime my laptop above has a wireless network card that I use to access local hotspots. I don't surf 'while' I drive...In fact the other nite when I was testing it out (GPS) on the highway, I came flying past traffic, went around them and over into the slower lane and cruised. Sure enough hwy patrol were on my tail! The guy cruised in beside me, but hung back a car length. I figure he was either running my plate, or was checking out the laptop that must have been beaming like a phosphorescent beacon in the nite .. ;) He did that for a full minute, then charged on down the hwy.

TY

PS : I can try and comment more on the mount if thats what you were referring to in the latter part of your post. Just not sure what else to say. The mount is somewhat self explainatory. The pics I've tried to take of it and is adjustable arms suck because they're just too close up, and confined to really make sense of or appreciate. I will say this, if you ARE intending to mount your laptop seriously, then this Jotto mount is the way to go . You might want mounting pointers from a few of us that have them though.. as the standard methods are lacking in terms of hardware. Better to fab up a mount to the passenger seat floor bolts or use larger bolts thru the floor/tranny hump and locking nuts etc.
