I have the Ram mount tough tray with a medium arm and a holder bar mount to use with my 12" toshiba tablet PC.
I held it to the passenger holding bar that come in the early models. It didn't work at all as soon as the trail got a little rugged. All the dashboard started to crack a lot at every single bump and it seemed that it was going to break, also, the holding bar mounts seemed to be flexing. I got scared and removed the Ram mount. And that's with a light 12" tablet Pc, imagine with a 15" laptop.
Now I'm thinking into reinforcing the holding bar by doing some kind of "timber" under it (to make the passenger even happier) or maybe do some kind of floor mount, but I don't feel like spending more money in Ram accessories (they are kind of expensive here).
FYI - I picked up a RAM Mount today, but have to return it. Seems like my MacBook Air will not fit without completely getting rid of my passenger seat.
SUCKS, I really wanted to try and mount the MBA in the truck.
No worries... I'l have to wait for Apple to come out with something smaller.
Why would you have to get rid of the passenger seat?
Here's what I have:
It doesn't impede too much on the passengers comfort. The passenger or driver can easily use it by rotating the arm. I'm very impressed with the tough tray however the universal mount is a little bulky looking. If you could use the jeniko mount with a custom bracket to use factory seat holes (seen somewhere here on mud) then use the ram tough tray instead of velcro with jeniko's mount. I don't like using velcro.
I use Jotto Desk and am very happy with it. For the mount, a solid bar was bent that attaches to the front factory seat mounting bolts. This is a very solid mount. The passenger doesn't feel like his/her space is encroached and the laptop can be placed so that the kids in the second row can watch movies.
Curved bar was a custom home made job! It had brackets welded to it so it attaches to the front two seat mounting bolts.
Laptop is very easy to remove, about five seconds. Normally I remove the entire top portion of the mount and leave in the garage. This leaves only the vertical riser bar (second pic).
