Lap top mount

Another move if necessary thread...

Lap top mount installed. 3/4 inch rod and a torch made the bends as easy as a hot knife through butter. Welded two tabs to fit under the seat bolts and bent the tabs to fit snug along the floor and wrap around the rod. I had a pivoting head sitting in the closet from the studio so I fabed it to fit on the rod so I can pivot the computer to suit what ever position is needed on the vertical plane. There is one more component to go on top of the stand and that pivots as well so you can change the computer angle and rotation. Drilled and welded a couple 1/4-20 nuts to add a couple of twisty things to stop rotation and ground a groove in the rod for a rotation stop. Another fun project done.

Well... This one bolts right in. And rock solid.

Sorry, I mean mass produced, like from Ram. Yours looks like a nice custom job.

Maybe if you can make more some folks might be interested, since a lot of people want to mount laptops in these things, but most of us have had to custom make our own mounts.

Yea I like the under the seat mod.. Most Ive seen bolt onto the right side of the shifter which takes room from the passenger... Nice job..

I think I remember your write up, Spike, nice job on yours. The very top part of my swing arm has a height adjust of about six inches and locks in place. There is a ball joint of sorts that fits on top of that to give it full articulation.

Glad to see this thread here. I just picked-up this gov't surplus mount for my Panasonic Toughbook.

Not sure exactly how to attach it, but you've given me some ideas. Unfortunately I think my centre console will have to come out. I might put a .50 ammo box in its place - and it'll lock!

How much did you have to invest in the cost to fab up out of curiosity?

Bout six bucks. I had the articulated arm laying around for years and not used and I have no recall on that price but it was cheap, the rod was a couple bucks from the supplier and the ball head was purchased at AxMan for two bucks. My labor and some welding supplies were the major costs and I don't keep track of my time because it takes me FOREVER to figure these things out. I never plan, I just go on the fly and make it work. HTH

Might have to revisit the height issue. It does make it easy for the passenger to use the lap top and watch a movie though.
