They are Land Cruiser 90 series "Prados", similar to the Lexus GX470's, and the base of the new 4Runners.
And no, I don't think they look much better than the LX470's, which I like alot.

Prado=GX470=4th Generation 4runner. All the same except, sheet metal is different and larger selection of engine/transmissions with the Prado. The GX470 is the all option V8 with the nice leather. The 4runner is more like the Prado since it gives the buyer more options for building your own vehicle. I like the 4th Generation 4runner design the best, a very modern mechanical looking design. The GX470 looks great from the front but it looks like they just quit when they got to the rear. When it comes to looks it is a personal opinion thing so there are no right answers.

My wife looked at the 4th Gen 4Runner, but didn't like the way the driver sits "down" in the seat, more like a car and less like a truck. She's small, and had trouble seeing over the wheel and hood.
We walked over to the used lot, and she picked out the previous body style in a '99 LTD. Loves it. And for the difference in cost, we can buy a lot of maintenance (even a new 6cyl, if needed).

120 series prado
The gx470/4run/prado is actually the 120 series. Older prado is 90 series. I will be renting one in Feb while in central america. I try to make it a point to rent a different non-us cruiser each vacation. There are so many kinds of cruisers there.

The new 4Runner looks like Nike tennis shoe with all kinds of wierd trim on it. YUCK!! That GX looks very classy from the front and rear, though it too is no 100. 100's rock.

AMEN. To each their own. I'z just razzin Pitbull. Seriously though, the 4Runner looks aweful IMO. What where they thinking. An Isuzu Vehicross in heat?

4Runner look so it's cool w/me Shotts I respect your opinion but your taste is all in your mouth A couple of buddies of mine that are car guys think that the 100 series LC and LX are the ugliest vehicle on the road and can't even imagine why anyone would want something that big and ugly, that costs that much. What can I say to each his own.

They wouldn't want your 100. I would though.
It is funny what different people like, I guess were lucky or the cost of LC's would really be high because everyone would want one. My nephew bought a new Tahoe, I just shock my head and told him it was nice looking. Hey what can you do when other people aren't as smart as we are?
