What do you guys think of the brakes on the 200?

Are they good or do you think they need to be better?

Perfect as is. Only owners really know how fast and agile the 200 is when driven with alacrity.

Towing 4 tons on a 10 mile steep downgrade --- I don't think the brakes are "perfect." Maybe it depends. My sense is that the stock brakes are great going to the mall and doing light duty. Move out beyond two std deviations from the 'norm' and I would seek out more heat resistance if nothing else. Have I, no. I think they modulate better than my Tundra's brakes. But the Tundra's brakes are a bit stouter. And they can be moved over to the 200.

They are good but like nearly everything, they could be better.

I replaced my stock brakes at about 40k because they were constantly noisy and because of a slight pulse, probably from a warped rotor. Based on a suggestion from another Mud member, I ended up putting on Hawk pads and Centric rotors all the way around and I was extremely pleased with them. Quiet, smooth, and slightly more effective than stock; I should have done it sooner.

If you are unhappy with the brakes, I've assembled a great kit at a nice price point using some Tundra components. They are almost ready to ship again, just waiting on some small parts from the machine shop.

It definitely depends. It always comes down to compromises in engineering. You can't have a perfect thing for all use cases. How many people truly upgraded their 200 brakes?

There have been many complaints about the longevity of the brakes. People seem to be swapping out brake pads quite often.

i have upgraded to Brembo 6-piston caliper fronts and 4-piston rears. never bothered driving the truck with the original brakes, but from what i had read on here prior to purchasing my LC the brake change was a must, considering the increase in power through the mods i did

I Have Brian's Upgrade Kit, bjowett above. It utilized Tundra Components adapted to the Land Cruiser. I'm just waiting for parts to come back from the powder coater then I will install and report. Others who have used Brian's kit loved the performance, I private messaged everyone who had installed.
I needed the piece of mind when towing a 7,500lb boat and trailer.

The way I looked at it is I had a brake vibration, some call this a warped rotor, from a build up of heat in the rotor. Great explaination link here:

I needed new rotors and pads all around anyway so I figurted for a couple hundred more $$ I would upgrade. It really only cost me the price of the calipers and few tundra parts like new backing plates (which have more ventilation holes, and my labor. I will post full installation and opinions.

Look forward to your install and feedback on them.

I am at 80K miles and my brakes are due for service (front and rear). I'm also having my Radflo shocks rebuilt, so now is a perfect time to replace the brakes if I do decide to go that route.

I've looked into the StopTech kit, but that wouldn't include new rotors. I'm now looking into Brian's Tundra upgrade. I do run the 17" TRD wheels, FYI.

From others that have installed this kit, what are your impressions so far?

Thanks!

I used power stop rotors and pads on my 100 and they were great.. Has anyone tried them on the 200?

I have been very happy with Brian Jowett's brake upgrade. Towed a lot this summer and had no issues.
I'm using the Centric Ceramic pads which have almost no dust. The HD pads had awesome bite but we're very dusty.
Brian also got me the e-coated rotors by request.
I also run the TRD wheels.
If you need brakes anyway I'd say it's a no brainier.

The 16 has the Tundra brakes.
You can consider ceramic pads. Talk to Brian Jowett
