photos taken around 1996-1997

note some design differences , which thankfully didn't make it to the final version .

This car really made a huge impact and in my opinion much bigger than that of the 200 series when it was released .

Well done Toyota on such a great car , here we are 15-16 years later after these photos were taken enjoying one of the best built 4wd's ever .

if anyone has anymore photos like this , or any photos of brand new 100s , please feel free to post them here .

I wish those foggies would have made it.

That character line below the bump strip (on the grey part) makes it look like a huge Rav4.

Very cool. Neat little part of the LC history. Thanks for digging those up.

reminds me of yesterday when a guy a local toyota dealer called my landcruiser a "highlander":bang:

It's amazing how many people goof that up, LJ. At my work, some kids slashed the tires on a public works vehicle and nail bombed the parking lot. My chief was talking about getting a new surveillance system, and started giving me crap about it saying, "ha, you'd probably move the camera to your car and we'd have 10 hours of footage per day of a black 4runner and nothing else."

My response? "Well sh*t chief, who drives a 4runner here? Because I sure don't." We all had a laugh about it, but LCs get mixed up alot.

On topic, those original headlights looked pretty cool. The final design is a pretty drastic departure from the concept though, I wonder how they arrived where they did in comparison to the original?

Did I mention that the guy from the toyota dealer who said "highlander" was the parts dept rep?:bang: lol

I wish we had those sidemarkers, I like the look of those

They kept some of that look for the LX.

Glad they ditched a lot of the plastic cladding, the big fender flares and the giant bumper scoop (Tundra?). Wish they'd kept the longer squarer rear window.

The fender bulges on the production 100 have a stronger more angular look than the large circular "moon rover" flares on this concept drawing. Good choice IMOP.

Concept wheels look sweet. So do the side mirrors.

I was thinking that the concept drawing was pretty close to the final. My guess is it wasn't a concept drawing but a preliminary bodywork study. All the main dimensions/ mechanical/and hard parts are set.
