Problem....

Had good progress this weekend, tires on rims, shocks on, the ARB wired in and plumbed but I have one problem. I drove the truck around the property everything felt fine steering wise, until I put it in 4wd and engaged the ARB, it will turn right just fine with the ARB locked, but it will not turn left. If I disengage the ARB, it will turn left, then engage the ARB, and it will come out of the left turn, but will not turn back left. I have an idea of a possiblity, just wondering what you guys think....

Joel, hope I didn't make ya' mad about the HF winch comment ( I see you deleted a reply). I wasn't trying to make a comparison, it's just that I thought a Smitty Built winch would be a little more expensive. I may call you about that a little later, it may cost as much to fix the Warn (it needs a cable/rope also), as it would be to buy the SB. Maybe more expedient also...

No worries ... Let me know

When the ARB is engaged can you turn as you roll forward? Also, remember, never backup with that thing on under torque. Especially with the wheels cut. That is the birf weak point.

The rear diff is locked, so the wheels will not rotate differently in relation to one another. You're going to scrub the tires every time you turn. Were you testing it out on loose soil/gravel?

You could jack up the rear end, lock the diff and check to see that both tires move the same amount backward/forward.

Don't mean to ask a silly question, but have you driven a locked truck before?

It will not turn left rolling forward. Just got out the barn with it just now, come to find out, it will not turn lock to lock standing still. It's like it's hitting the steering stops, but it not. I did notice while rolling forward yesterday, the truck deems to turn O.K. to the right, enough to manuever and make the turn, but when the wheels strightened out, that's as far as they would go to the left, like the steering is locked up. Dis-engage the ARB, she turns fine

My Mazda/ranger was locked front and rear, but that's not the problem, not going left at all is the problem with the ARB engaged, dis-engage it for a second, and I have all the left turn I need, even standing still...:bang::confused:

Ok it will be harder to turn on but your saying rights easy left not at all ??? I would put it in jack stands and see what it's doing like that sounds crazy

We have a winner, ulnocked and in just 4x4 she steers great, engage the ARB, and it won't go left... I'll look at it again a little later.

Here's some current pics...

The first one is the mounted ARB compressor, the other one (maybe two) is from driving around the property just checking thinngs.

Never finished....

But finished enough. Got the winch mounted, skid plate on and my storage box in the back. Sorry Joel, I didn't buy the winch from you, but the Austin store, I did mildly threaten them with calling you though, that helped!!! It is the 8000lb winch. Here's a couple of the latest pics. Figured out a ARB locker is like a spool when engaged, so no steering problems. Other than not having any lights whatsoever on it right now, I guess it's basically ready for the trail...yep....a little nervous. But like Capt'n Ron sez "If anything is going to happen, it's going to happen out there!"

When you going to take the bubble wrap off the seats?

I was trying to start another trend!! Probably leave it on as long as I can. Having an open faced barn allows a lot of weather to get to stuff. Hell, the dust boots for the tie rod ends have already deteriorated to a point of needing replacement and I haven't even driven the rig hardly 200 yards yet. I will take it off soon. Got quite a bit of minor stuff and adjustments to make and need to locate the correct parking brake asembly so I can get that done.

WL.
What power steering setup are you running? I don't see the saginaw box in this pic.

It's in a secret place  behind the cross member. Using an Astro van PS box. The pitman arm points the other direction so I was able to stuff it behind the cross member and partially under the radiator. We'll see how good it works... I'll try to post up pics of it later...

It's time to update your signature.

Still missing the chains.

Only reason I have to put them on is to make sure the :princess: wife can get in. Suprisingly, she can get into this one without them, we'll have to see, may need them anyway...
