After watching my tailgate carpet slowly deteriorate over the past few years from camping, using it as a work bench and our dogs I wanted a solution. After a few months of trial, errors and prototyping I had a final version for my 100 series (since it runs) Then we did the 80 series (in my sig line).
These are CAD drawn from the factory carpet panel. Professionally made, router cut and radius faced edges.
The big kicker was adjusting the mounting holes away from the factory mounting holes. This allows the user to remove the cut board and replace the carpet without any issue. Hardware is included and the screws are stainless and fit recessed. Being cutting board material, it is only available in white. Easy to clean and textured for a non slip surface.
You may ask why does it have 13 mounting holes? I was surprised after replacing the 100's to find that the 80's gate was severally dented and deformed from what I assume would be knees as the carpet was mint, but the fiber board was broken in every recessed section. So I used a $15 slide hammer from HF to make the gate level. The extra hardware makes the gate much more rigid.

- Use painters tape to mark each side of the panel.
- Remove your carpet panel with a plastic ABS pry tool.
- Position cutting board on gate, using tape to center.
- The carpet sat flush against the edge, move the board down 3/16" and then mark the mounting holes with a spring punch making sure the panel does not shift.
- Remove panel, using a short stubby step drill, drill each hole to 7/16" and vacuum any metal shavings.
- Install hardware into board, attach the toggle nuts to the screws and flip over.
- Push the board into place and each toggle nut through each hole.
- With an electric screws gun or drill with a phillips bit, start at one end and snug from one end to the other while lifting the board until it lays flay.
- Once all are snug, you can adjust it and then gently tighten by hand into place.
- Enjoy!
