Looking to drain fluids in the Differential and Transfer case.
Don't know where the positive. assist is located. Hope I'm using the right description of the part. Just a picture of it will help. I know it only takes a Small amount of lube .Also, whats the best lube to use.
Any help is Appreciated.
Thanks,

Top plug is obviously fill. Open that one up first. Will be a 24mm 6-point socket.

Then open the drain plug on the bottom to drain. Will be a 24mm 6-point socket.

1st picture looking from the rear forward.

2nd picture looking from the rear forward and up.

3rd picture looking at the axle housing from the front backwards.

80w90 or 75w90 for the gear lube. Diffs get about 3 quarts each. Transfer gets about 2 quarts.

Any major brand of gear oil will be fine. No need to get high end s***. Waste of money.

Caution if you have a limited slip differential. This is usually indicated by a respective sticker on the diff. It needs special gear oil 'LSD'.

You will also note that the position of the filling holes make it impossinle to pour straight from the container. Also a funnel may not fit. A hose and pump is most convenient.

Probably would help to state what vehicle/year/model. Don’t know what you mean by positive assist.
Power take off. Cant find it. It's a 1995 KZJ73 with a 3.0l Turbo Diesel.
Hope you can help.

Are you talking about a pto? Didn’t realize that was an option on a kzj73. If so usually those are attached to the transfer case, so remove fill plug and remove drain plug, drain, re install drain plug and fill till fluid comes out of the fill hole, then install plug.

Didn't see any sticker.... I have a pump kit to fill. Is there anything else I should be looking for to see if its a limited slip??

Ok.. did that today. My Manual is in French.. hell, my English is bad so forget about trying to read French. I was reading about it online and someone mentioned that it might have a Power take off... Don't know where it would be if I did have it.

Brother... Your pictures are a Big Help.. special Thanks 👍

To test for open diff or LSD , Jack up rear axle, both wheels off floor. lock drive shaft from rotating. Turn one side wheel, if opposite wheel turns the same direction then its a LSD , if opposite wheel turns in the opposite direction then its an open diff.

Have a look at the data tag on the firewall in the engine bay, it should have the axle codes that will determine if it was equipped with an LSD.

I don’t believe the KZJ73’s we’re equipped with PTO’s, though I could easily be mistaken. If yours has a PTO, there should be a lever on the left hand side of the transmission tunnel, and a gearbox hanging off the LH side of the transfer case.

Some of the Euro market KJZ7* models had a power take off.
