My daughter and son in law just bought a small horse farm (11 acres) any suggestions would be a big help. About 5 acres of field to be mowed and they will need a bucket.

The two dealers around here are Kubota and John Deere.

I've got 5 acres and my B2620 is just about perfect. I mow about 4 acres plus my dad's rental with a zero turn. I bought a 4' brush hog, front end loader and box blade. If I had any larger of property I think I would go larger as mine sometimes has a hard time with traction on the industrial tires.

Both of our dealers are great. My suggestion would be to have them go in and talk to the dealers to see what they recommend and test drive some to see what they like. The only thing that I wish I would have bought with mine would be remote hydraulic ports front and rear so that I could expand its capabilities.

My only advice is that you will never regret having a bigger tractor, but one that is on the small side will end up costing you time and frustrating you, so buy the biggest one (that makes sense) that you can afford. Dealers will tell you that a really small tractor is just fine for 5 or 10 acres, if they have a lot of them in stock they need to sell. I'm just now moving from 5 acres to 92 acres myself, and even for 5 acres I wouldn't go less than a 48" brush hog and a tractor big enough to pull it.

A bucket (front loader) on whatever you get is a necessity; they are the most handy and useful things ever.

Ya, in this case being cozy with the dealer will be important. They will need someone who will help them after the sale.

New baby to them last week so another horse is a year or two off, probably less if I know my daughter.

Since we all like pics...

I don't know what finance options Deere offers, or if they plan to finance, but Kubota does 0% interest if you buy from them. Also, the backhoe is expensive but useful. If they get it, make sure they get the mechanical thumb. Transforms it from an oversized shovel into a giant robotic arm.

I saw on TV 84 mo, 0% financing. Not sure how much these things cost but daughters reaction was " thats a long time".

But it's a long term investment. I have seen some that look like total trash, kept outside all year and they start right up.

You could have $30k into one without trying to hard. They hold their value pretty well. She could give lessons or do some other sort of business and it could be a tax deduction.

Well, she is in the animal - horse liniment, not drug business. She runs the animal side. They have this stuff for humans, and the company has an animal and human side.

She has been riding for 30 years, sold Hobbes when she got pregnant and then they found this house.

Each of those three bays will easily park a Greyhound Bus, they may rent two of the horse stalls and there is an apartment above the 20 x50 house two car garage.

So it will be an income producing property.

Isn't a tractor necessary to board horses?

I think so. It's equipment to run the business.

I have a landscaping business and found many creative ways to fund items ...

I've given a lot of thought to renting out tractor service in my local area. Lots of smallish hobby farms, gravel driveways, etc. a few hours in the evenings or on a weekend might help me pay for my Cruiser addiction...
