kt boundary in anza borrego???

kt boundary in anza borrego? (update from GeoRoss)

does any one know if the kt boundary is evident in the anza borrego area?
i'm asking here first because i know allot of us get out there often and there is such a wide range of interests here.. if no one knows, i'm going to PM geoross..

seriously, i'm no geologist by any means but i dig stuff like this. i was near giddy when i found petrified wood near the diablo drop off.

You would have better chance in Death Valley. Some of the oldest rocks on earth can be found there.

A little off topic, but something else thats cool out that way is the San Andreas Fault, just outside Mecca off Box Canyon Road. You can actually walk on the San Andreas fault which is pretty cool.

The other really cool place that I know of to see the fault is in Carrizo Plain NP. You can see a stream bed make a Z bend from the fault moving the bottom of the river over 400 feet. Just a neat place in general that I highly recommend for some learning and exploring.

Excellent pic, that is very interesting. I'd like to see the water flow during a flash flood.

I wonder why it's KT and not CT. Maybe the "C" got used on some other important period?

Miked, as per GR no kt boundary. But there is a lot of really cool geology. The granitic rocks are cretaceous age but they were inplaced at great depth ..... about 6-9 km. before they were uplifted. A great new book is out about the AB desert over the last 7 million years.
