The Wouxun Chinese brand I have will not work.
I'll retract this. I'd forgotten that my Wouxun died and I have a Baofeng now. Pulled up a list of frequencies associated rated with GMSR channels and was able to key it in without an error! Someone bring a GMSR radio to our club meeting on the 1st so I can make sure. Im sure Marc is correct about it though!

I don't know. I have never programed my Baofeng or my 2-meter. I only use them as trail coms.
Thx. NonGMRS Baofeng radios like my UV-5R nonGMRS supposed need some programing. Can't see why if you're not using a GMRS repeater, but for $32 I can get a nice Baofeng GMRS radio a d forget about it.

You can save all the GMRS channels on your Baofeng UV-5R.
Other than that there is no programing. Unless the new ones comply with the new rules and strictly working on 2m/70cm.

To those that are new to GMRS, you will need to buy the license. It's $35 for 10 years. This is the website. I'm sure HAMS are familiar with this webpage.
George

Like so many that don't get their ham licences?

The FCC website is a fuster cluck! Even with my FRN number and logging in it's just impossible to find the application page for gmrs.

WOW! Finally found it!

I've always been a vocal proponent of having a license to operate on ham bands with this group, so this will be no different. License applied for and paid. Now to see how many decades it'll take...🙄

Miracle of miracles, I’m actually free that whole weekend! If it’s not too late, Jerry, will you please add me to the list? I can’t wait to burn up some $5/gal gas (or maybe $6 or $7, by next week?)!

Wait until you get to Arizona, it'll be cheaper! Oh right...you're in a Landcruiser. Can you make it that far?😂🤣😂🤣

I'm the one talking with a measly 18.5 gallon tank and a little better gas mileage.

This a map of the Kofa route we plan on taking. A OnX map link is below the image.
The start of the route is at the bottom of the map with the route ending at the I-10 east of Quartzsite.

I was just able to send a gpx file from OnXOffroad to Brent via text message. I don’t see a way to attach that file to this thread. If anyone else not using OnX needs the gpx files, you can PM me your cell number and I’ll text it to you.
