Got a weird 'knock' (for lack of a better term) going on in front drivers side wheel when i turn or when I'm going over bumps. Kind of a dull thud...

I can also feel it in the steering wheel, floor board, etc.

My CVs have been leaking for a while, is this maybe a sign of failure? Or is this knock something else?

Do you mean when you go over a speed bump at an angle or just steer the truck right and left so it rocks you hear it? If so this type of sound can be a sway bar end link often.

You can disconnect them easily and see if it still does it, fast way to confirm or eliminate them.

Could be snow and ice build-up between body and sliders. Do you get snow in Louisiana?

I think far is onto something (not the snow!). I once jacked up my truck using the sliders and they shifted just enough at the front for the flange to hit the body under flex. Like speed bumps, turning into parking lots, etc. I could feel it in my feet as much as I could hear it.

If its a knock/clank as you go over a bump theres a good chance it might be your suspension bushings, i ended up changing my front lower control arm as there is a bushing that only comes as a one piece unit attached to the arm.

He said he feels it in the steering wheel, I wouldn't think the sliders would present like that. Feeling in the steering wheel is almost always suspension or steering itself.

No snow here.

More info. On the drive from my office to shop the knocking became more pronounced, almost a clicking. Happens regardless of steering, even when driving straight. Not continuous but anytime there is travel.

I had a front sway bar link that broke recently that kind of made thAt noise. Only the top bolt broke so wasn't reAl obvious upon quick inspection had to really look

Easy to visually check. Could also be your passenger-side steering rack bushing shot. This allows the rack itself to move, and sends vibrations/knocks up the steering column. While someone turns the wheels, you can see if your rack moves relative to that bushing pretty easy...

I had the same thing turns out it was a dent in the outer dust cover for the front shock and as you turned or went over a bump the dent would contact with the inner tube. It was a good enough reason to convince the reason to convince the misses it needed a lift kit :-)
