For those of you who are looking at unique kitchen projects or design, I thought Id post some pics of the kitchen backsplash which I've almost got one side done, still needs grout.
It's a one off, my parents live a province away, and my mother has made stained glass windows as a hobby for about 20 years. I wanted to integrate the spice rack into the wall space and do something different, I ordered some french glass bottles with cork stoppers and transfered all the spices over.
The reciever for the bottles on the wall is some 4x4 cedar, I drilled a pilot, then hole sawed it to get a lip that would protrude from the wall, then a forstner bit to drill the cavity, each block got 4 screws and glue to a board. The holes in the board were drilled to clear the studs in the wall.
The glass was siliconed to a piece of 1/4" G1S plywood which was primed white. I still need to grout between the glass and wipe some of the markings off the glass, it should look a little better when that's done and the other walls are completed.
Calgary has what seems like winters that last too long. I wanted it to feel greener in the kitchen when looking out the windows at whiteness for half the year. My daughter seems to approve!
Pics are from the iphone so please forgive the quality.
