I thought I had this but does anyone have the manufacturer bearing numbers for the 80 kingpin bearings (not the Toyota p/n, I have that). The info I have is taken from b-wulf's birfield repack parts post:

Koyo: 30304AJR-2-N Hi cap

The bearing place I am dealing with says that after 30304 the code doesn't compute, so he either needs a cross-over code for a Timken, or else he needs the expected radial load for the bearing (e.g., why are they "Hi-cap").

As usual, saving money requires work :D

Yeah, I ran into the same problem. Someday when I have lots of time on my hands I'm going to combine some of the great info here, scrub them, and post it in the tech section. I'm wading through all this with my new purchase ('97). Anyhow I believe the link below has your answer.

 Never mind. I was thinking axle not kingpin. I got mine from CDan and tossed the boxes. Sorry.

Semlin -

I have a set of Koyo trunions right here in my paw...

30304AJR-2-N Hi-Cap is what is stamped into the bearing, and
30304AJ Hi-Cap is stamped into the race.

So... you've got your info correct.

Cheers, R -

ahh, but apparently the AJ code is not a normal koyo code. Thanks, I'll keep hunting.

The kingping bearing we are getting now from a local bearing dealer is Koyo and the Number on the box is 30304 AJR. The Bearing dealer is a Koyo dealer and the number is in his book. This is the 13 roller bearing, from the Aus'es on the 80 list be careful of using the 12 roller design, seemed it did not hold up as well. later Robbie

ok, I have tracked down 30304 CM timken bearings and 30304 AJ koyo bearings. Both have 12 rollers not 13. Can't get the "AJR" in the great nation of Canada. Rats.

The number I quoted earlier from Koyo is 13 rollers. I check them before I posted this e-mail. later Robbie

John,
Please check and double check before you go changing lists with part numbers. As reported above, the part numbers in my original post are correct. Just because you can't find the part doesn't mean the number is wrong.

We pulled the birfs on my brother's 91 this weekend. Sure enough, 3 out of the 4 trunnion bearings have between 4 and 6 pitted rollers each. Now ordering them locally from Toyota at C$40 a pop. Could have ordered them from Dan cheaper when we ordered the rest of the kit but mistakenly thought we could source koyos from a local bearing ship. Ironically we did source wheel bearings locally only to find the existing bearings are perfect. Now I have a nice set to put on my back axles I guess.

Anyway no harm done except to pocket book as his clicking birfs are being rebuilt today anyway.

Interesting to see what it's like inside the axles of a truck where the seals are definitely gone. What a mess, starting at the outer hub and getting worse everytime we removed a part! On one side the grease/oil mixture just poured out like pancake batter. This was way messier than my two prior repack experiences.

Sounds just like my '97 at 100k. And very little pancake batter on one side. Could have been very expensive had I waited another 10k or so.

I found the 30304a at OReilly's for $16 each. Came in a BCA box but the ones I got were KOYO.
