Ok: I am not quite ready to throw this out on the public forum/"big board" but I thought I would put this out to our club as I know a couple of you have been thinking about this type of camping/off-road trailer.

A couple of us are coming down home stretch with regard to making a decision about buying a couple Kimberly Kamper SportsRV model trailers. We have researched this to the ragged edge and are confident this is the best deal out there and certainly the best deal in recent memory. What has spurred this on are two things: The desire to have a more comfortable and usable trailer/camper when weather (wind, cold, rain) is a factor and the new KK SportsRV model is about 400lbs lighter than their other and previous models (wet it weighs about 2,250lbs; battery, water, propane included in the "wet" weight).

Anyway the real motivating factor right now is the low AU to US $ exchange rate. They can ship 2-trailers in one shipping container making it especially attractive to order in pairs. A nicely equipped KK SportsRV can be had on this special deal from KK for under $20K (currency flucuates daily) and can be had for less than $19K without a couple of the options I want.

Here's a link to the KK SportsRV model page:

I have mechanical drawings and very detailed Q&A from our e-mail and direct phone conversations with the owner of KK over the past couple weeks. If anyone is interested please send me a PM along with your e-mail address and I will get you all the info. I intend to make my final decision after attending SEMA next week but we've collected enough information to be qualified to be making a safe, sound decision at the present time. Its an opportune time to do this!

I think that is a wise choice in trailers. I hope this works out and look forward to seeing one in person.

Exactly.

Nice, but I really don't want to spend that much money on something I'll only use a couple times a year.

I need to add up the nights I have spent in my Horizon this year alone...but it has to be over 25-30 after last weekend's hunting trip. If I had the amenities of the KK I could easily add another 50% to that...

Im thinking a fractional ownership deal like corp aircraft.

Those are AWESOME!!!!

All I can tell you James and I have put in freaking HOURS upon HOURS analyzing (OK...over analyizing :D but damn that's alot of money to spend/invest...and they don't take returns ).

As I mentioned above we have a small window of opportunity to get this done: Between no USA dealer (right now anyway); lowest exchange rate in a long time; lighter version thanks to the plastic/glass nose box and other aluminum additions; willingness on KK's part to work with us...blah blah blah.

I hope to be heading to LA in February to pick it up...then to DV (Saline Spring) to test it/break it in!

Come guys you only live once...might as well live it in on-trail comfort :D. Just think what your wives will do for you if you take her out camping in one of these nice KK SportsRV's:

My rig has hardly engouh power to tow ITS SELF with ME in it!
Sure is a nice looking set up for sure.

I think my wife would DIG something like that...
I like the one you have already though.

Your V8 conversion is going to take care of any lack of power issues!

And since you like my Horizon so much why don't you just buy it!

Its a neat little trailer!
What issues do you have with it/ what dont you like about it.
If I werent doing the V8 conversion to take care of the power issues that wont allow me to pull your trailer...I MIGHT consider buying it.

Funny how that works.

Keith: Mostly it is because all of these style trailers don't have a quick means of getting out of the weather should the weather be less than ideal. It will be nice to have a vestibule that automatically deploys with the tent; queen size bed; changing area separate from the bedding area, diesel air heater, etc.

The ladder is a sort of a PITA for Sandy. She goes with me now and then but its just a PITA when both of us are using it. The Maggiolina, although a great RTT, is just too narrow for both of us. It will be nice having a larger bed, not having to crawl over one another to get out of bed, having a protected area/vestibule to dress/undress/hangout, etc. Even plenty of room if a couple grandkids ever come along for the ride!

The AT has many plusses like being able to follow a rig just about anywhere (just ask Jack & Darcie!). Being able to carry water, fuel, etc. Easy stove cooking, lots of cargo capacity, etc. It is extremely tolerant of my abuse/hard use.

I won't be able to pull the KK over some of the crazy terrain I have taken the AT. But I'm OK with that. It's one sacrifice or the other. And with the KK I will actually be able to spend even more time out exploring and camping than I do with the AT. And for the most hard core trips I might think about a roof rack atop the hundy and just sleep in the LC. It just ain't a perfect world.

Spressomon.

Are you selling your trailer? I'm not in the know with PM'ing on this board. How do I get ahold of you to ask questions about what you have and how much you want?

Will.

You can call me on my cell: 530-6176 day; 853-5597 evenings.

I'll want to sell my trailer once we've taken delivery of the KK. I'm going to SEMA this week...and then assuming nothing there that would alter our course we'll more than likely place the KK order on 11/10 or 11/11. And, ideally, we'll want to pick the trailers up in LA in February.

Yeup...I guess that youve thought of this!
I see your point. Little ammenities make a LOT of difference.
The one time I wheeled with you (Barney Riley) and I saw that trailer you have perform, I was very impressed with its capabilities.
Im not that good of a wheeler to also have to worrie about what the trailer is doing...Maybe some day. Id like to set the taco up for more expedition type stuff...maybe some day. It sure would be nice to have a designated spot for all the gear, all the time. I really see the value in those trailers, especially for keeping the wife happy.
