Does anyone know the minimum range for the Keyless Entry on a 2014? I'm sitting here in a hotel room and realized I'm actually not that far away from the truck parked outside. Would hate to think that the truck is sitting in the hotel lot unlocked...

You have to pretty much be standing at the door with the fob on your person to open it. However, if you sit on the fob & activate the unlock button, it will probably work at up to 300ft away in the right conditions.

However, if you do this accidently, it will re-lock itself after 60sec if no doors have been opened in that time.

My range is not great as well. I was wondering if I disconnected the antenna for it somehow.

I think he's referring to the keyless entry sensor that lets you open the door by hand.

The wireless BUTTON range is exceptionally good, and you could mostly likely lock and unlock using the buttons if you can see it from your room.

The difference is that the buttons are transmitting radio waves when you press them...where the FOB sensor relies on proximity...not a transmitter.

Example: Yesterday I tried to push the brake pedal down with my hand to start the truck without actually getting in. It let me with my fob in my pocket, but sometimes when I do that, I have to lean in close. It's similar with the door handle.

Easy test: Set your FOB down on the ground next to your truck...then pull the handle. Re-lock, and keep moving the fob farther and farther back. You should discover that the range for door handle opening is super small.

I was trying to setup a backup key like I do in the 100, but since the key systems are different I haven't found a solution, but did find that if I hid the FOB in the back of the truck, I could still start the truck after opening the door with the backup key.

100 - Door key hidden outside truck; key with remote built in hidden in truck, i.e., someone could find the exterior key and access the truck, but couldn't drive it away.

200 - Door key hidden outside truck; FOB hidden in back of truck, but range is still sufficient to allow truck to start. I will try it again now that I have drawers, as that may be sufficient to limit the range to the Start Button.

Other solutions I might have missed?

Hide door key out side truck, hide fob inside truck with battery removed and taped to it....allow you to enter with key and start once battery is replaced

Except that a thief who breaks the glass and finds the fob...can drive off in your truck... ;)

or hide inside key and battery separately...then he'd have to go to the store for the hard-to-find battery. ;-)

Good idea though.

Hide the key in your pocket... No more worries! ;)
