I just bought this truck and the previous owners didn't have any remotes for it. They said the one they had stopped working. Is there a way to test the keyless entry/security system without the remote. I don't want to spend the money on a new remote if the system is bad. Any ideas? Suggestions? Anybody know the price of a new 96 LX450 remote?

The owners manual takes you through the twists and turns (pun intended) of locking / unlocking with the key in the driver's side door. I'm not sure how to "test" the security feature - even with the remote - other than hitting the panic button.

I don't have an owner's manual either. I have a Haynes manual for Landcruisers, but it doesn't cover any of the Lexus stuff.

This is not of immediate help, but there's a '96 and '97 LX450 owner's manual on ebay right now.

I don't have the key turns memorized ('cause I always use the keyless remote:flipoff2:), but I'm sure someone does.

Do all 96 LX450's have the same FCC number? I'm willing to buy a remote if there is only one version for the 96.

Go to the Lexus web site and register. There is a place where you can request the Owner's Manual. They will send you one for no charge, including the shipping.

You should have a black box under the driver seat. It should have an FCC number. I believe Cruiserdan can order you a new FOB.

i bought a fob through cdan because i'm not picky whether it says toyota or lexus. if you have to have the L, they're available all the time on ebay. prices vary depending on condition but 45 bucks should get you a decent one.

Do yourself another favor and burn that Haynes manual (and any Chiltons too that you may own). Next get on ebay and purchase a Factory Service Manual from Toyota so that you can easily handle these things in the future.

Just ordered an owner's manual through Lexus. Amazing service.

I also found the black box under the seat and jotted down the FCC: BAB237000-129. Are they all the same, 96 LX450 and 96 Landcruiser?

Bromo88, how much was a new one through Dan?

I just did a little research. The coresponding remote I need has the FCC#: BAB237131-022. Can anyone confirm this? There are a few on ebay with this FCC# but are for various model Toyotas, does it matter what model car it's for as long as the FCC# is right?

No, because the LC never had a standard alarm/keyless entry. Many were port installed and different depending on the 3 distribution markets; Toyota Motor Sales - USA, Gulf States Toyota, and ?? (can't remember the East coast distributor.)

All the LX got the same system which I believe is the RS3000 that was available in the 96-97 Land Cruiser from TMS-USA.

jlg,

i don't recall how much cdan charged for the fob but it was very reasonable and i had other parts i needed. here's the toyota fob that works with the lx450:

eBay Motors: 94 95 96 97 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER FOB KEYLESS REMOTE NEW (item 370189560842 end time May-17-09 16:54:04 PDT)

good luck and congrats on the new-to-you truck.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. I hope it works because I just bought that one on ebay. Thanks for the help guys. When it comes in, I'll post my results.

Good luck with your remote. I wasn't careful about who I bought from and ended up buying 3 remotes before I got one that worked. For one of the first 2, the guy refunded my money, but the other simply refused to communicate with me after I returned the fob (he of course kept my money).

The third fob worked perfectly. I looked for the link for the instruction on programming it but I had not saved it in my bookmarks. I think if you use the search function and look for RS3000 you should be able to find the programming instructions somewhere on the site.

If you don't mind the fact that the fob from CDan says Toyota instead of Lexus, it should work perfectly, it's brand new, and it's right around $40. No reason to get an aftermarket one or risk an untested used one at that price.
