Key won’t come out of ignition

I recently replaced the pin and spring because the shifter was loose and the plastic piece was broken. It shifts like new, everything is fine but the key won’t come out the ignition for some reason. When I put it in park, the doors unlock so it knows it’s in park but the key refuses to come out.

I opened the trans box again and disconnected the white wire right behind the trans box and it released the key but won’t shift without it being connected again. Any idea what’s going on?

If anyone else comes across this problem. I figured it out, it was the small U shaped metal thing that sticks out to the left of the shift when everything is opened. It clicked (I guess it got out of place where I was repairing the spring and pin) and now the key comes out.

Thanks for sharing this. Same issue here, but now with more problems.

1st: Key wouldn't release from the ignition before disconnecting that sm, white wiring harness.

2nd: Now, to shift out of park, I have to press the white button on top.

3rd: That u-shaped, metal tab sticks out from the side of the box. I still don't see where it should connect.

4th: Shift lever won't engage 1st or 4th gears.

Did you experience any of those issues, too?
