I was reinstalling the arm rests on my seats today after putting on seat covers. I somehow hit the shifter while doing this and now I cannot get the gx to move, it won’t go in gear. It appears that the lever got turned because now it is at an odd angle. The lever has a small bend towards the bottom which from pictures on web looks like it should be facing forward.

I took the shift mechanism out of the gx but I can’t figure out how to get it back in proper position. It looks like the black plastic box should separate at the top but it didn’t want to budge and I was nervous about breaking it. It has 2 tabs up front, two on the sides, it’s the front tabs I can’t move. Any advice? Car is stuck in my garage and I am not sure what to try.

I figured it out and it’s completely embarrassing. I can’t delete this thread so I’ll just hang my head in shame and admit to being a dumbass.

I must have hit the t case shifter while working and it was in neutral.

Nice.

If it makes you feel better, I once couldn’t get the windows to roll down from all but the driver’s door. Found the child lock switch was pushed on the driver door.

There are more like this but I will end it.

I've admittedly torqued the piss out of a bolt I thought I was lossening. More recently I didn't purchase enough oil to finish an oil change. There's a reason I don't do this for a living.

Well…see if this video helps you open up the shifter box and do some preventive maintenance now that you know how to open up that area…

Yeah I used that video and opened it up. Everything was perfectly fine, the pin, spring and bushing. If any of that breaks in future now I know how to access.
